Battered Kings welcome bye weekend

Port Elizabeth - Southern Kings head coach Deon Davids says their bye weekend has come at a fortunate time, with a number of the Super Rugby players still battling with injuries.

Davids confirmed that both starting locks, namely captain Steven Sykes and JC Astle, had sustained light concussions during the game against the Bulls last weekend.

“Both are being evaluated by our medical team,” he said.

“Schalk Oelofse has also picked up a soft tissue injury and Edgar Marutlulle has a slight knee injury,” he said.

Davids also confirmed that Sti Sithole had sustained an elbow injury, while Jacobie Adriaanse and Shane Gates were still out with a rib and foot injury respectively.

“On the positive side, scans done on Siyanda Grey’ knee have come back and shown that the injury is not as bad as first suspected, so we are going to be working on his rehabilitation with him in the hopes of him being available for the latter part of the competition,” Davids said.

The Kings’ next match is at home against the Lions on April 23.
