2 more Springboks lured to Loftus? - report

Cape Town - Springboks Jesse Kriel and Marcell Coetzee are the latest players linked with moves to Loftus Versfeld.

This follows the weekend announcement that Springbok No 8 Duane Vermeulen will be heading back to Pretoria later this year.

According to Netwerk24, the Blue Bulls Company (BBCo) is looking to further boost its stocks by bringing midfielder Kriel back to Loftus, while also starting negotiations with Ulster flank Coetzee.

The union's CEO Alfons Meyer told the Afrikaans publication that they were looking at getting the Springbok duo back into the country.

Kriel plays for the Canon Eagles in Japan and his return to Pretoria will depend on the Japanese Top League season which only kicked off after last year's Rugby World Cup and which has been affected by the outbreak of the coronavirus.

The report added that the union would be in conversation with Coetzee's agent to establish whether the flanker was interested in joining.

Kriel, 26, played for the Bulls between 2014 and 2019, while Coetzee, 28, played for the Sharks between 2011 and 2016, before heading for Ireland.

Vermeulen, meanwhile, is expected to rejoin the union in June, after the Super Rugby season concludes, but will be available for the Blue Bulls' Currie Cup campaign.

Vermeulen featured prominently for the Loftus Versfeld-based side last year before serving as a key member of the Springboks' World Cup-winning team.

Since then, he has been an integral player for his Japanese side, the Kubota Spears.
