Zane Kirchner to leave Bulls

2013-04-22 12:00

Pretoria - Bulls fullback Zane Kirchner is to take up a contract with Irish side Leinster later this year.

Despite a five month long effort by the Blue Bulls Company (Pty) Ltd to have 28-year old fullback extend his contract past the October 31, 2013 expiry date, the player’s agent on Friday confirmed a two year deal with the Irish province.

A final release date has not been established though and will be determined by the BBC board of directors, High Performance Manager Xander Janse van Rensburg said on Monday.

“We understand that an earlier release might be requested, but it is up to the board to approve that or not. We have been in talks with Zane and his agent since November and although it is very disappointing to lose his services, we wish him well with the new phase in his career,” Janse van Rensburg said.

“From our side, with coach Frans Ludeke very involved and in regular consultation with Springbok management, we tried our best to keep the player in Pretoria, but could in the end not compete with the exchange rate and the expectations of Zane and his agent.”

Blessing in disguise. Enjoy thr guinness. Go SA Rugby!!!

      Jeff Gacy - 2013-04-22 11:37

Blessing for the other SA teams. He is the modern day Rolls Royce.

      BlouMasjien BlouBloed - 2013-04-22 11:55

Definitely going to miss "The Hitman"!

      dewaldmarais - 2013-04-22 12:21

Thanks for leaving Crusty - you've made my day!!! The most one dimensional player on earth!

      Jeff Gacy - 2013-04-22 14:15

Maestro, we are not allowed to say 'mate' anymore.

      Omge Klits - 2013-04-22 14:48

So sad - our only international quality fullback - rest all foolbacks.

      Johan Walters - 2013-04-22 16:06

Pietskiet Nick Naks en Guiness sal mooi saam gaan . Sal hom nie mis nie.

      Pierre Rear Spear - 2013-04-22 21:45

Strong under the high ball, strong defender. Also unbelievably dumb and devoid of any vision.

      Derek Francois - 2013-04-24 05:41

Is this an April fools joke or are we finally getting rid of this overrated predictable one dimensional palooka - bon voyage!

    Thank you Lord!!

  • Rynier Potgieter - 2013-04-22 11:35

It might be a loss to the bulls more than the Springboks.

      Rugbykenner van Alles - 2013-04-22 13:29

This is the biggest loss for the other teams. At least with Zane they always knew what he was going to do: 1) Catch, kick, run or 2) Catch, run into defender without offload

  • Nico Eksteen - 2013-04-22 11:36

      Jeff Gacy - 2013-04-22 11:43

We have already won 3 Super rugby trophies. How strong do you want us?

      Nico Eksteen - 2013-04-22 11:58

      Jeff, the 3-trick pony.

      Jeff Gacy - 2013-04-22 11:59

And the 3 cup winning team supporter. I don't expect you to understand.

      Robert Rob - 2013-04-22 12:05

      BlouMasjien BlouBloed - 2013-04-22 12:12

Stormers already lost 3 semi-finals at home.

      Phillys Winterbottom - 2013-04-22 12:31

shame, eksteen arsewipe, it must really hurt when you open that trophy cabinet and hear that giant echo of NOTHING !!!!!!!

      trev2 - 2013-04-22 13:04

@Jeff: when the Bulls have won more than the Crusaders, they will be strong enough.

      Jeff Gacy - 2013-04-22 13:16

No Trev, then we'll be the greatest Super rugby team, ever.

      Jeff Gacy - 2013-04-22 14:16

      Thanks John, I try.

  • Nico Eksteen - 2013-04-22 11:38

  • Robert Peter Gemmell - 2013-04-22 11:38

not bothered that he is leaving as the new fullback from saturday has more to offer and is an exciting prospect for the future kirchner is not good enough for me so go to ireland and enjoy the worst draught in the world

  • Sean Read Crisp - 2013-04-22 11:53

Not really a loss for either the Bulls or the Boks, but SARU should really limit the amount of overseas players eligable for Bok selection, or something along those lines, to try and reduce our extreme player exodus! We've lost like 15 decent players in the last 8 months to europe and japan!

      Jeff Gacy - 2013-04-22 12:01

If only Jean de Villiers and dom Duane would go as well.

      Jeff Gacy - 2013-04-22 12:22

      That's also true, Raven.

      Izz Hayes - 2013-04-22 12:57

Zane is doing the whole of SA a favour,, now attacking fullbacks can get a chance in the bok team

      Wade Johnson - 2013-04-23 02:15

Exactly, let's bring in someone who actually joins the backline from time to time. May Kirchner never return.

  • Roy Wadhams - 2013-04-22 12:10

And good riddance for the Bulls and hopefully for the Springboks. Why Meyer persisted in using this idiot only he knows. Lets hope and pray that this is the last we see of him. A pity that there is not more like him and Morne, what's his name, that we can get rid of.

      Jeff Gacy - 2013-04-22 12:18

You don't even know Morné's last name, now you want to comment on rugby. Rather don't.

  • Jonathan Walker-Randall - 2013-04-22 12:25

As a Bulls supporter, it comes with a heavy heart (actually that's just my colestarol)...have a safe trip Zane. Kirchner is the only player i see trying to avoid gaps and look to run into the "brick walls." Time for Visser to shine, he's got a lot of potential and will grow as a player given the oppertunity. Waratahs are next. Go Bulls!!!

      Robert Rob - 2013-04-22 18:50

      @Maestro - You're just a bloody agent!

  • Beverley Uys - 2013-04-22 12:27

Yay! Won't miss him. Good luck to Leinster. Hope they don't have any serious aspirations of winning any titles.

  • iYesssss - 2013-04-22 12:37

Sad, but he has provided the Bulls with years of good service, and know it is time to make real money. We will miss you. (Except for supporters of opposition teams who's a$$ you kicked.

  • Daniel James - 2013-04-22 12:40

With all our comments about being glad that Zane is leaving because of his playing style....mostly kicking the ball away.....don't you guys think that it is FL and HM's fault. I mean he sure did play to a set game plan....I think Zane will be better playing for Leinster as I am sure they will not be kicking away so much ball.........and hopefully he will not run straight at defenders they might just teach him how to side step.....Good luck Zane.....go build your pension!!!!!

      Jeff Gacy - 2013-04-22 14:28

Gonna get myself a jersey and join the supporters club. Might even immigrate there.

this is the best news i have heard all year on the sporting front. Worst fullback in the world.

      Jeff Gacy - 2013-04-22 13:24

You forgot about Joe 'The Midget' Pietersen.

      Jeff Gacy - 2013-04-22 13:41

      That's besides the point, Twakkie.

      Jeff Gacy - 2013-04-22 14:20

Maestro, I'm always correct. You must just learn to admit it more often.

Those poor leinster players. Great news for us Boks and Bulls fan though

      Izz Hayes - 2013-04-22 15:16

I live in ireland, I'm allowed to dislike them.

      Izz Hayes - 2013-04-22 18:08

  • Jannie Pretorius - 2013-04-22 13:38

Wow Zane as a Bulls supporter I just want to wish you well when entering this new season of your rugby carear. I will indeed miss your rugby contributions. Thanks for your loyalty to the Bulls and also us as fans. Good luck from a beautiful George!!

  • Faan Roetz - 2013-04-22 13:38

The boy from the tiny school of Kretchenshoop in Blanco, George became a Springbok and he served his country with everything he had. It is frustrating to see people that had neither the skill, perseverance or the courage to play the game at this level trashing his legacy here. These blogs were not created for you, but for rugby enthusiasts with character and integrity. Why don't you stick to station toilet graffiti?

      Jeff Gacy - 2013-04-22 13:42

Comment of the day, right here.

      Jannie Pretorius - 2013-04-22 14:31

So true Faan. Coming from a true rugby supporter.

      Robert Rob - 2013-04-22 19:02

@Maestro - OK point taken, but WHO is the replacement? Please don't tell me that midget Aaplon! If you look to the likes of Frans Steyn etc Then I agree. One tackle by a flank on the midget and he's carried off the field!

  • Roy Wadhams - 2013-04-22 13:39

@Jeff Gacy the reason why I could not "remember" Morne Steyns last/surname was, because like many other Blue Bulls players,he is a "has been"

      Jeff Gacy - 2013-04-22 13:48

Wow, what a chirp! Pity it's in the wrong place. It's just not the same.

  • Shane Bond - 2013-04-22 13:47

Thanx for leaving-you will not be missed. Wish people could see how arrogant you act towards your peers in your hometown george.

      Shane Bond - 2013-04-22 15:01

Thomas the part of your comment where you refer to him not being my friend I can understand and it makes sense. But the other part of gladiator being used in the same sentence is an insult to gladiators of the past for zane has not a single gladiator quailty. Anyways who cares.

      Shane Bond - 2013-04-22 16:15

So all you can come up with is insults hey, no need to get personal buddy. You are entitled to your opinion so am I.

  • DjBas - 2013-04-22 13:48

No loss at all, he was rubbish on the rugby field!

  • Marko Miladinovic - 2013-04-22 14:00

Zane played very well during is stint with Griquas and took time to fit into the Bulls set up. He played well during the period 2008 - 2010 but has nor been able to do very well since. Maybe it will be a good thing for him and the Bulls to leave and go make some good money before he retires, and for the Bulls to develop a new younger player like Jergen Visser.

  • Craig Wilson - 2013-04-22 14:16

wow...bulls supporters! just wish zane some luck.no wonder they hate the supporters so much.

  • Bloues - 2013-04-22 16:29

I'm glad that Visser is constantly playing well since Zane has been injured. At least we know that we're covered. And to all of you Zane and Bulls haters out there, the man has two Super Rugby titles under his belt and he earned them. How many does Fransie, Lambie, Klein Percy (And groot Percy), and all of the other palookas you want to shove into the Bok team ahead of Kirschner have?

      Izz Hayes - 2013-04-22 18:11

...2 of those have a world cup under their name, screw the S15 with you've got the Web-Ellis on your CV Kirchner will never be a world cup winner or top class player, ever. He doesn't do anything, and this is coming from a Bulls supporter.

      Izz Hayes - 2013-04-22 21:53

Zane could learn some things from Ol Percy, like, how to play rugby.

  • Vickers Vermeulen - 2013-04-22 16:36

O Koek! Now the Bulls will be even better.

  • Thomas Cannon - 2013-04-22 22:38

No loss!! We have the next Bok fullback, Jurgen Visser!! This young man is streaks ahead of anyone out there today!!! As I have said the Bulls are building a big potent young backline, the only draw-back is Morne's successor, NO Vision!!!

  • Wade Johnson - 2013-04-23 01:58

Good riddance you Loser ! This is a great thing for the Bulls & the Boks. My condolences go out to Leinster.

      Robert Rob - 2013-04-24 09:07

Replacement??? - Just not midget Aaplon PLEEEAAASE

  • Chrisin Oz - 2013-04-23 07:44

The Bulls are starting to cut out dead wood. Next would of course be Wallaby Hougaard. Turnstile Steyn and Bang-gat Kruger has already been cut out, so that leaves them with Meisiekind, Flop vd Merwe, the two Potgieters, Arno Botha and of course the biggest, deadest piece of wood, Pierre Spies to cut out.
