Woes at prop for Lions

2012-03-06 07:32

Cape Town - The Lions have received a double blow at prop, with JC Janse van Rensburg and CJ van der Linde ruled out with injuries.

The Beeld newspaper reports that the 26-year-old loosehead prop Janse van Rensburg tore ligaments in his toe against the Hurricanes last Friday, which will rule him out for about three months.

Van der Linde, who was Janse van Rensburg's replacement, has a groin injury which is set to keep him sidelined for about four weeks. He is expected to be back in April.

Since making his Super Rugby debut in 2004, Van der Linde has only played in 52 matches, with injuries constantly sidelining the Springbok prop.

Apart from Jacobie Adriaanse and Caylib Oosthuizen, the Lions could also pick the University of Johannesburg's Ruan Dreyer as backup prop.

These setbacks make tighthead prop Pat Cilliers role in the team all the more important.

The Lions travel to Durban to take on the Sharks at Kings Park on Saturday.

net soos in die curriecup final?.......................dis sou ook 'n easy game gewees het.

      Denzil - 2012-03-06 07:53

      Stormkaap - 2012-03-06 08:19

      Jan - 2012-03-06 15:05

      @Francois Lions 88 - Queens 0. Nuf Said.

  • Francois - 2012-03-06 07:52

  • Johan - 2012-03-06 08:32

  • Nico - 2012-03-06 08:40

GO LIONS, it's gonna be tougher than last year and tougher than last week, but you are good enough to win the sharkies in the tank :)

      Lionel - 2012-03-06 08:52

All panic will break loose in Durbs if the Sharks lose this week as well and then they still play Reds the following weekend, eina, tough draw for them!!!!

      Nico - 2012-03-06 08:56

Agree Lionel, if we didn't loose our two starting props would have been a lot more confident, but then we also would have won against the hurricanes, so who ever got the best depth will win the super cup. Lions vs Sharks should be good though, if Jacobie can put pressure in the scrum Lions should take it, think our loosies and backline is better than the Sharks, just need the tight fight to dominate :)

      Lionel - 2012-03-06 09:03

Good luck, will be backing you boys all the way(no disrespect to Sharks but I like the Lions)

Not sure what the fuss is in Lion's country? Pull this Aubrey Gloster chap who posts here into your squad? He is a Lion's fan, he weighs about 300 kg and seems to be pretty confident in his own 'abilities and talents'.......

  • Vernon - 2012-03-06 09:36

EP Kings have good props ..... oh sorry , Lions probably don't have money to buy any more Kings players .... my bad !!!

      Jan - 2012-03-06 15:11

Lions 88 - Queens 0. Lions can win the Kings with just their backline. At least we do not have dirty government money (Your Tax Money Moron)

  • Bootman - 2012-03-06 09:43
