Whitehead out of S15 final

2012-07-30 11:03

Durban - Sharks centre Tim Whitehead has been ruled out of Saturday’s Super Rugby final against the Chiefs due to injury, the franchise confirmed on Monday.

The midfielder sustained a broken hand during the Durban side's 26-19 semi-final victory over the Stormers on Saturday and did not travel with the rest with his team-mates to Sydney on Sunday.

No replacement would be named, according to the Sharks, with the squad now cut down to 23 players.

The team had received a welcome boost ahead of the competition finale after Springbok back Patrick Lambie and junior Bok Paul Jordaan were included in the touring squad on Sunday after recovering from injuries, with both capable of playing at centre.

The Sharks have based themselves at Coogee Beach in Sydney for their initial preparations and will make their way across to Hamilton, New Zealand, on Thursday.

@Isak - please, please shut up! You are the complete moron! Asseblief meneer Visser, jy het nie eens die ordentlikheid om die Saarks geluk te wens met hul prag oorwinning nie. Jy is 'n absolute skande! Skandalig, korrup, grootbek, ens...

      charlesdumbwin.dumbwin - 2012-07-30 11:38

Isak, there are still no Super Rugby trophies in the Cape.

Sakkie Whitehead is class.. And should have been groomed as a successor to JDV..

      mark.ross.779 - 2012-07-30 12:26

Isak, and look where 'not being on the bench' got him.. Chirp when you have at least a leg to stand on bud.

Massive blow!! However, we've managed to win without Lambie so far, this team is greater than the sum of the parts. Go Sharks, make us proud!!

  • jon.woodgate.9 - 2012-07-30 11:11

Pat Lambie will just have to step up to the plate at No12. We know he can do it.

  • charlesdumbwin.dumbwin - 2012-07-30 11:16

Hmmm, the woes continue. With the hectic travel schedule, the last thing the Sharks needs are key injuries. Lambie is no centre. PS - has the Isak Visser pro-Province character surfaced yet? Is he still crying and in hiding?

      charlesdumbwin.dumbwin - 2012-07-30 11:29

not for you guys, Province might as well be relegated back to Craven Week. At least you could probably compete there.

      MarkSchrade1980 - 2012-07-30 11:38

Isn't this the same charles that trolled how the Sharks choke and how bad they are???

      charlesdumbwin.dumbwin - 2012-07-30 12:10

yes, the same Charles, but this weekend the Stormers set a new benchmark in choking.

      MarkSchrade1980 - 2012-07-30 12:35

I read someone say the Sharks invented chiking but the Stormers perfected it. Thought that was quite funny...

  • marius.roodt.33 - 2012-07-30 12:05

bit of a blow, sharks have depth thou. if not, play kanko there or burden....

  • piet.visser.129 - 2012-07-30 12:34

Pity about the injury to Whitehead but Lambie seems to be ready to go as well as the Jordaan chappie. They should bring in Jordaan in the open centre berth and play Lambie on fullback in place of Viljoen. Ludik has shown himself time and again as a major asset on both attack and defence in either position of fullback or the wing and deserves a place in the final. I went to a show of the Australian ABBA at Sibyja on Sunday and my Lions heart went out to the Stormers during and after an apt and brilliant rendition of the song the Winner takes it all. Al of the best to the Sharks you will need every bit of goodluck in Hamilton but you have shown you have the guts and ability to do it.

  • john.maree.90 - 2012-07-30 15:13

There are no South African team that won the Super 15 trophy? so why are you guys going at the Stormers as no team except the Reds won it? Shut up.

      john.edwards.733450 - 2012-07-30 19:54

      talk about grasping at straws

      john.maree.90 - 2012-07-31 07:52
