WP is in De Jongh's blood

2012-03-14 07:41

Cape Town - Western Province is in his blood.

That is why it was an easy decision for Springbok centre Juan de Jongh when he extended his contract with Western Province and the Stormers until the end of 2015.

"It wasn't a difficult decision because I played all my senior rugby here and grew up as a WP and Stormers fan," the 23-year-old told Die Burger.

"The spirit I experienced here over the last few years was unbelievable. I've also learnt a lot.

"There are a lot of junior and senior players who have signed new contracts. With that core we can only get stronger and hopefully win trophies," said De Jongh.

Stormers coach Allister Coetzee confirmed that wing Gio Aplon also extended his contract on a "long-term" basis.

The Stormers take on the Blues in a Super Rugby clash at Newlands on Friday evening.

15 Joe Pietersen, 14 Gio Aplon, 13 Juan de Jongh, 12 Jean de Villiers (captain), 11 Bryan Habana, 10 Peter Grant, 9 Dewaldt Duvenage, 8 Nick Koster, 7 Duane Vermeulen, 6 Siya Kolisi, 5 Andries Bekker, 4 Eben Etzebeth, 3 Brok Harris, 2 Tiaan Liebenberg, 1 Steven Kitshoff

I just hope the Stormers win the blues, just to add some salt into the bulls kamp. Go Lions bring the game to us !!!!!

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-14 07:54

The ultimate prize is to win the trophy, not the Blues. You should try to beat them.

      Jason - 2012-03-14 08:07

      Pedantic much? Dozer!

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-14 08:27

      Jason - 2012-03-14 08:09

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-14 08:53

They are only slippery when wet.

      Lionel - 2012-03-14 08:53

Jason,I know we need rain badly in the Cape but not Friday night

      Jason - 2012-03-14 08:56

Yeah matey! Im also praying to the Rugga gods that Newlands stays dry!

      Saffa - 2012-03-14 08:59

Morning chaps :) Chuffed to see you Bulls boys choosing 'cups' over quality of life......admirable indeed. I go to the beach....Raven visits a 'cup'. I climb Table Mountain.....Raven visits a 'cup'. I visit wine farms....Raven visits a 'cup'. I drive on decent roads......Raven doesn't mind dodging potholes, as he can visit a 'S14 cup'. Sorry boys - quality of life vs a few trophies, no contest: QUALITY OF LIFE everytime (just ask the Crusaders - I reckon those chaps would give back EVERY 'cup' they have ever won - being the MOST successful team in Superrugby history and all - if it meant life could be the way it was pre the earthquake...) On to rugby - we have to attack the hell out of the Blues lineout...Boric is ALSO out for them now, and honestly, our jumpers really should have a bloody field day.

      Jason - 2012-03-14 09:04

Morning Saffa, on the lineouts, i agree with rotating players and Eben has been very busy of late. But if you believe their weak point is the lineouts then surely Eben should start????

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-14 09:14

Saffa, I have my bread buttered on both sides.

      Lionel - 2012-03-14 09:14

Jason,Eben is starting as far as the team sheet goes!!!! Morning Saffa, another wonderful day in the mothercity:):)

      Saffa - 2012-03-14 09:14

@Jason - Eben has had a few 'niggles' already, and I reckon AC saw how the Blues seemed to struggle the last stanza of the Loftus game (granted altitude played a role), and I reckon he might have seen a 'gap' to bring Eben on to 'clean up' when our team HOPEFULLY turn up the heat in the last 30. I have seen on other sites though that they list Eben starting? So I'm not 100% sure who is right or wrong. But Eben on the bench could be a great call - as he can actually replace Bekker OR Steenkamp.... All of the above said: Our forwards can do the hard work ALL night, but it means NOUGHT if the backline twattle/waste/lose the ball we get (what the Bulls did...)

      Lionel - 2012-03-14 09:18

Oh yes Raven,I forgot we are also run by the DA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol@Dozey

      Jason - 2012-03-14 09:25

yeah i just saw that Eben is starting according to this article. So maybe it was a typo I read. Either way im sure the forwards will do what is required of them. Its the backs that have something to prove. Backs perform at their best when they are relaxed and enjoying the game, forwards need that aggressive tension to hype themselves up. JDV and the boys must relax and enjoy the ball supplied by the forwards and it will all fall into place...........................WOW that was so easy to say, but not as easy to do im sure!

      Saffa - 2012-03-14 09:44

And a Supercup contributes what exactly to quality of life @Raven? Scenery is in fact secondary @Raven - twas just an example I used(although it is great to enjoy). I wany QUALITY of life my friend - my rates and taxes being put to good use - check. Decent roads - check. Minimal corruption at municipal/grassroots level - check. No tolls - check. Pretty clean parks and streets - check. Relative safety - check....check...check, etc etc etc. No trophy in the world is worth trading for the above - and I'm sure most would agree. As for the 'squatter camps" as you call them - folk have moved down here in their thousands for the quality of medical care etc, no govt on earth could keep up with the need for housing this influx demands.

      Saffa - 2012-03-14 09:45

@Dozey - are you back in Plattekloof? Or did you sell when you left?

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-14 09:49

Back in the Kloof, Saffa. Had a friend look after the place. Didn't want to take a chance.

      Saffa - 2012-03-14 09:56

@Blueraven - then you must live in Midvaal.

      Lionel - 2012-03-14 09:56

Saffa, you can send the boy smoke signals

      Saffa - 2012-03-14 09:58

@Dozey - makes sense. Silly to sell when you leave the country on a 'trial' basis - many of our mates have seen their jacks selling - only to return shortly after.

      Saffa - 2012-03-14 10:09

@Lionel - l just want him to hike his @ss over the hill down to the Magic Forest 'area'. I have a new paintball gun you see......

      Lionel - 2012-03-14 10:09

      Dozey,why you remove your comments????

      Jason - 2012-03-14 10:09

Dozy in Plattekloof??? God help me, is Sunningdale too close or should i move? lol!

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-14 10:15

      Didn't remove nothing Lionel.

      Lionel - 2012-03-14 10:16

Saffa, make sure you zap him with a pink permanent marker ball:):) Jason,I think you safe there for now...................

      Saffa - 2012-03-14 10:18

@Jason - now now, we welcome 'ALL' down here in the Republic of CT - even the Dozer and his minions. We should actually put the Statue of Liberty's words at the border.... “Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

      Jason - 2012-03-14 10:35

      @SAFFA...........................................say what?

      S - 2012-03-14 10:36

@BlueRaven - After watching the Nel Incident on Youtube, I realised that in the Cape we have a much better quality of wife too.

      S - 2012-03-14 10:43

@Saffa - I lo-o-o-ove that poem, very appropriate! Just one question - that bit about “Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” - does this mean that Amor is not allowed in?

      Saffa - 2012-03-14 10:54

      @Shistirrer - ROTFLMAO :) e-classic.

      Jason - 2012-03-14 11:00

      Still laughing

      Saffa - 2012-03-14 15:17

fake Saffa, I thought this was a rugby blog? Not a travel SA or lifestyle blog? You better get a few chirps in before your workday is done, we all know your internet situation at home. How's the "malpractice" presentation coming along?
