Cape Town - It hasn’t been an easy week for the Sharks.

As it happened: Hurricanes v Sharks

A poor Super Rugby season so far resulted in CEO John Smit writing an open letter to the franchise’s largely frustrated supporter base, apologising for what they have had to endure so far in 2015.

Yes, supporters from Durban expect more, and they would have been far happier with what they saw from their side in Wellington on Saturday.

Gary Gold's charges gave renewed reason for optimism, with hard running and resilient defence at times characterising their gritty performance against the Hurricanes, despite going down 32-24.

There may still have been too many missed tackles for Gold’s liking – the ‘Canes did run in four tries - but the most important thing about Saturday’s display was that the Sharks were up for it. There was an intensity to their game that has been lacking in recent weeks, and if they can build on that then they needn't approach their last two games on tour against the Waratahs and Reds with any trepidation.
