Stormers sign Bezuidenhout

Cape Town - Lions hooker Martin Bezuidenhout will join the Stormers at the start of next week, as injury cover up front.

With youngster Scarra Ntubeni (shoulder) having undergone surgery this week and Springbok Tiaan Liebenberg (back) still a few weeks away from taking contact, Bezuidenhout will be based in Cape Town until the end of March.

Stormers coach Allister Coetzee explained: "Martin will initially be here until the end of March, but it could be longer - depending on the fitness of Tiaan and Scarra."

Bezuidenhout played his Craven Week rugby for the Leopards, before moving to Johannesburg after school.

The 23-year-old hooker has represented the Lions at every level - including two seasons of Super Rugby and the 2011 Currie Cup final when he came off the bench.

"As I said earlier this week, we needed a hooker with enough Super Rugby and big-game experience and Martin certainly fits the bill," said Coetzee.

"He also came very highly-recommended by his peers and we're looking forward to welcoming him at training on Monday and getting him up to speed with our systems at the HPC."

Bezuidenhout will immediately be included in the team's preparations for next Saturday's warm-up match against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein (kick-off 17h00).

Good news for the Lions, some of our youngsters can gain more experience while Martin gets more experience at the Stormers. Lions are gonna have an awesome squad by the end of the season :)

Coetzee had to get a hooker from the Lions. This is just after the holiday season, and with all the Bull supporters who holidayed in the Cape, the hookers from Long Street and the Sea Point need a rest.

This year it's a hooker curse for the Schtomers. Martin double your injury insurance, I give you 3 games.

This is typical, vote us out of S15 and then they use our players. Shame on the coaching staff of WP (weer probleme) you do not even have faith in developing your own talent in Cape town. Poach, lend and steal is the new moto.

typical alright suppose its stormers fault you guys trailed the bottom of super 15 log? its also our fault your coaching staff was in a shambles for the season( not saying that they bad at their job ).

Someone else suggested we should refer to the Stormers as the ‘Lions South’! There has also been a question if DHL stands for “Die Hele Leeus span”!
