Stormers favourites to win

2012-03-27 08:28

Cape Town - Bulls forwards coach Johann van Graan says the Stormers are favourites for their Super Rugby clash at Newlands on Saturday.

Van Graan told Beeld the Stormers have the experience, playmakers, home ground advantage and are an established side.

"There's a reason why the Stormers are the only unbeaten side in the competition. They're playing together for the last two, three years now and have developed as a unit. They also held continuity from last year, when they were the best South African side in the series," said Van Graan.

The Bulls had a few casualties after their 61-8 demolition of the Reds at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

Half a dozen players couldn't train on Monday but the good news is all of them should be ready come Saturday.

Jacques Potgieter (neck), Werner Kruger (neck), Chiliboy Ralepelle (flu), Jano Vermaak (back) and Zane Kirchner (knee) were all absent from the training session on Monday.

With team doctor Org Strauss confident of having all six ready for the Newlands clash the men from Pretoria should be able to field their strongest possible team.

Only one Springbok, Dewaldt Potgieter, won't be considered.

Fetcher flank Deon Stegmann is fit and could play a big part against the Stormers.

"We're very happy with the performance of CJ (Stander) against the Reds, but it remains a specialist position and few are better than Steggies (Stegmann) in that regard," said Van Graan.

This Super bru pic is gonna be a tough one!!!

      Jason - 2012-03-27 09:02

@Shnez, for the other fans maybe but for Stormers and Bulls fans its an easy pick. As a Stormers fan my easiest Superbru pick every week is the Stomers game!! ;)

      Jimmy - 2012-03-27 10:05

Not that hard mate..... Highlanders, Hurricanes, Chiefs, Sharks, Force, Crusaders and Bulls !!! Only tricky one is Cheetah's vs Hurricane's..... Saying Hurricanes as Cheetah's are having a bit of a problem with their forwards but we'll see :)

  • Morn%c3%a9 - 2012-03-27 08:35

Ag Isak hope you feel beter after this and get over it please.your such a baby needing attention.

  • Bootman - 2012-03-27 08:35

I heard that Bulls girls are happy this game is at Newlands. For one week at least they dont have to dance to "Take me home counrty road" Shame cheerleader should have to dance to that.

      Rene - 2012-03-27 08:47

@Bootman, the Bulls Babes are going down to CT, (not to dance obviously) but to do some Marketing & Promotion work - there are a lot of Bull supporters down in CT and yes they should also have to experience and interact with the BBabes. But I fully agree with you, 'Trein na Pretoria' and also what's up with the Lions playing "Darling' WTH?? LOL

      Bootman - 2012-03-27 09:04

Rene I did'nt hear that song being played at Cocaine Park..............sorry I mean Coca Cola park. I think I was too irritated with the way my team was playing.

      Rene - 2012-03-27 09:19

@Bootman, take my word for it! Scary stuff that! I understand that they need to cater for ALL but c'mon, this is the year 2012. I remember that Darling song (doing the sloooow dance when I was like 16 - and thats MANY years ago - LOL)

      Saffa - 2012-03-27 09:24

@Rene - tell those poppies to bring their own bleach, perming lotion, crocs and coral pink lipstiffie - they might struggle to find those items down here.

      Rene - 2012-03-27 09:30

      @Saffa, jealousy is a bitch!!!

      Saffa - 2012-03-27 09:44

Not sure about Jealousy (don't know her) - but I can be one..... (almost forgot - tell the 'babes' that we don't have industrial razor blades here either)

      hvanderlinde - 2012-03-27 09:54

They were playing Sweet Caroline the whole night at the Lions game. Made for some disturbing viewing with the lions supporters touching each other and all

      Rene - 2012-03-27 09:55

@Saffa, wow never realized that, thanks, but ever heard of waxing? You girls should try that! Anyhow, blades are dangerous items to have in CT, especially when the Stormers lose!!!

      Saffa - 2012-03-27 10:00

I have yet to see a Pta chick who waxes....(industrial wax or sex wax maybe....) ? Will you be coming down for the game Rene? I can arrange your border crossing into the Western Cape - if you can give us guarantees that you won't be concealing any additional Tswane refugees of the tappet sort in your vanity case. We look forward to welcoming you.

      Rene - 2012-03-27 10:18

@Saffa, you should come out more! You know to little! But I'm glad to see you living up to your 'sparkling, wonderful personality' - you never disappoint - always personal! Anyway, thanks for the invite, but NO, not flying down to C/T - not such a big game in my book anyways - I rather wait for the following week when the Bulls can really measure against a Champion side, the Crusaders, NOW that's worthy of my excitement. Besides my Bulls have enough support in CT, they won't miss me! Enjoy though

      Saffa - 2012-03-27 10:38

Oh dear - tis only when a Capetonian makes 'a few bitchy' comments that it becomes 'personal' and nasty I guess? When you lot from the Northern wastelands do it - it's banter and all in good fun? I don't know WHY I keep forgetting the rules of engagement round here... thank you for reminding me. Note to self: Don't insult the Bulls and their fans - check.

      Saffa - 2012-03-27 14:42

@fake Saffa HA HA HA, Rene is besig om jou naam gat te maak! Kombuis toe ou girl

      Lion - 2012-03-27 18:33

Catfight, Catfight!!! The Official score..... Drumroll.............. Rene 1 - Fake Saffa 0

      Saffa - 2012-03-27 20:45

@Lion It's more like Rene 20- Fake Saffa minus 5, shame, she does not have the cells and the chip on her shoulder is not helping. Hopefully she finds peace in her new kitchen

      Lion - 2012-03-28 00:44

Saffa... You are right. I see you are also a forecaster. This might even be the score on Saturday... Bulls 20 - Stormers 5 Go BULLS... Spies for Bok Captain!!!

      Jc - 2012-03-28 14:40

I see there's not a lot of braincells amongst the northern fans here. Can't even tell who the fake Saffa(Cannadoos) is! And as the Real Saffa says: "Oh dear - tis only when a Capetonian makes 'a few bitchy' comments that it becomes 'personal' and nasty I guess? When you lot from the Northern wastelands do it - it's banter and all in good fun?"

      Saffa - 2012-03-29 02:05

@Jc Burger And that's your contribution for the day? Go get some Botox, Juvederm Filler and grow your eye lashes with Latisse, you look Retrovirus invested

  • Burtfred - 2012-03-27 08:38

      hvanderlinde - 2012-03-27 09:57

And it's so blatantly obvious that you'd be a moron to actually think that it would have any effect, yet... I give up

      Stormkaap - 2012-03-27 20:21

I dont how he comes up with the notion that Stormers have been playing together for 2-3 seasons now.. Kolisi, Etsebeth and Kitshoff are barely out of u/20, Koster was injured for a greater part of the past season.. And AC/Fleckie had juggled around with backline the whole of least season, not to mention the fact that the Stormers used 3-4 flyhalves last season.. And besides the Bulls were at their rumbling best against the REDS with Spies in top form

      Jc - 2012-03-28 14:42

@ Stormkaap: I was thinking the exact same thing!

      Saffa - 2012-03-29 02:09

@JC Burger Thinking is obviously not your strong point

  • Lionel - 2012-03-27 08:50

Let the mind games begin.........Stormers by 5 points

      Jason - 2012-03-27 09:03

I know it wasnt intentional but the smile in the article picture comes across very sarcastic next to the heading lol.

      Lionel - 2012-03-27 09:09

Hahahaha,I didnt pick it up until you mentioned it!!!!! Whats your take, think we can do it????

      Deon - 2012-03-27 09:20

Stormers by 1. Should they lose a close game you can still get a bonus point on Superbru.

      Saffa - 2012-03-27 09:20

@Lionel - the Bulls and 'mind games' in one sentence? Their idea of a mind game is wearing a pink jersey.........terribly sophisticated psychological warfare. Kurt Darren is another weapon of mass psychological destruction they use with some success amongst the lesser unions.

      Jason - 2012-03-27 09:50

@Lionel, we CAN do it, whether we will is another story! I felt the guys lacked intensity against the Lions, but if we bring the same intensity to the Bulls as we did the Blues then we will win. Its all about mindset for Saturday. The fitness is there, the talent is there now the players must get their minds there.

      Lionel - 2012-03-27 10:07

@Saffa,lol,that"sous Tannie that swore when that "oom"ran onto the field, she is psychological mass detsruction on her own!!!She will scare the s..t out of anybody!!!!! @Jason,I think we also need to take them on upfront...gonna be cracker!!!

      Saffa - 2012-03-27 10:18

      Oi - that thing doesn't speak...she grunts.

      Lionel - 2012-03-27 10:21

      Stormkaap - 2012-03-27 20:22

Stormers will be so focused on the pink jersey that they will be unable to concentrate of the ball!

  • morne.deklerk - 2012-03-27 09:00

Nice try Johann, the Stormers will be the underdogs on Saterday...STORMERS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dirk - 2012-03-27 09:12

Favourite does not necessarily mean that the team will win. For instance, the Stormers, WP and the Denver Broncos are my favourite teams. My favourites to win, yet they have not won a tournament within 11 years. haha Hot cheerleaders though :) This one can go either way. Stormers by 5 points or less. Bulls by 10 points or more.

      Saffa - 2012-03-27 20:43

@Dirk It's like saying it's either gonna rain tomorrow or it's not. Go play somewhere else, your gray matter is scanty

  • legndkilla - 2012-03-27 09:21

good game awaits on saturday... finally all the talk will be put to rest when the stormers win...

      Dewald - 2012-03-27 10:07

Ha, ha, Julle better hoop julle kry nie 'n moerse pakslae nie!

  • Taetjo - 2012-03-27 09:36

Stormers playing together for years? Well... Koster, Kolisi, Etzeberg, Poolman...

      Marcel - 2012-03-27 09:52

they did play last year so this will be their 2nd year, 2 = plural i.o.w yearS. and they played jnr's together as well

      Taetjo - 2012-03-27 10:51

But the same goes for the Blue Bulls players. They have all been there.

      Taetjo - 2012-03-27 10:53

You actually can't count. Starting to play last year, means that you are only finishing your 1st year this year. So, they in effect have one year playing together. Stormers have changed quite a lot since 2010.

  • verweyc - 2012-03-27 09:56

Looking at selective stats The Bulls are the best SA Super Rugby team, as they are the only SA team to have won the Cup and have done it 3x. Well done and congratulations to them for this. That’s history and not going to help them in winning it this year. The game is won on current season performance and not on achievements of previous years. The complete stats in order of: - Games Played, Win, Draw, Lost, Table top , x Table Top, x Table Bottom, Bulls = 191, 88, 7, 96, 2, 3 (Have ended 2002 season without winning any games) Stormers = 180, 88, 5, 86, 0, 0 (Have not played in 1997) Sharks = 191, 96, 7, 86, 1, 2 Cheetahs = 92, 27, 2, 63, 0, 0 Lions = 191, 49, 5, 137, 0, 4 These stats are excluding the current season .

  • Dewald - 2012-03-27 10:02

Jono, Julle verloor dit al vir 11 jaar, een ding van 'n Stormer, julle staan by julle span. Is dit lojalityd, of plain stupid? Ek vra maar net.

      Saffa - 2012-03-27 10:19

What it is Dewald, is great self esteem. We do not measure our own success in life by what a team of sportsmen does or does not do - simple.

      Jimmy - 2012-03-27 12:04

that is rich coming from you saffa..

      Saffa - 2012-03-27 14:44

@fake Saffa Acknowledging the Stormers are pretty pathetic?

  • Johan - 2012-03-27 10:17

      Johan - 2012-03-27 15:26

Moet jou vrou steeds als agter jou aandra?

  • johann.erasmus - 2012-03-27 10:43

my superbru pick ... stormers beat bulls with 3 points...

      Jason - 2012-03-27 11:25

Does that mean the Bulls will only get 1 bonus point, final score 3 - 1 Stormers??? Im just asking!

      Saffa - 2012-03-27 14:44

@Jasoneye Get on the treadmill fatso, you boring

  • Robsschele - 2012-03-27 11:35

Who does he think he fools. The Stormers are the underdogs and will definitely lose this match. Ask all the Bull supporters and they will all tell you that the Stormers do not have a snowball's hope in hell to win this one. In 11 years they have never won a cup. How can they now beat a team that won it 3 times already. This past weekend they just succeeded against a team running on spare parts while the Bulls thrashed the S15 champions of 2011. Ok Johann van Graan pull the other one, it's got bells on.

      Johan - 2012-03-27 11:45

@ Robsschele - Interesting how you refer to the Lions as a team running on spare parts and the Reds as Super 15 Champions. The Bulls played against a complete new Reds team due to various injuries Please compare Apples with Apples Mate. You will understand my statement on Saturday after the game!!

      Saffa - 2012-03-27 15:31

      Saffa - 2012-03-27 15:31
