Stormers deny Flo rumour

Cape Town – Suggestions on the Twitter grapevine that Springbok flank Francois Louw is already back “in training” with the Stormers ahead of a possible short-term loan deal from Bath have been pooh-poohed by the franchise.

Spokesperson Gavin Lewis told Sport24 on Monday that the rumour was “not true”, while some reports have also suggested that the chances of Louw becoming available for his former Super Rugby team actually receded at the weekend.

The strong loose forward, who is a fine fetcher but also forceful ball-carrier, has missed the last few weeks of the English Premiership season with an injury.

But he is thought to be approaching full fitness again, although he did not play for Bath again in their 28-3 defeat to Leicester Tigers in their last fixture at the weekend – that may have been a bit of a spark for a jump-the-gun thought that he is already focusing on a Stormers stint.

The club finished well out of the playoff berths, eighth out of the 12 teams in the Premiership.

Allister Coetzee’s charges presently lack experienced options at loose forward, as all of Schalk Burger, Nick Koster and especially Duane Vermeulen will only return after the June Test window period.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
