Stormers coach in two minds

2012-03-19 22:28

Cape Town - Stormers coach Allister Coetzee is in two minds about whether or not to include fit-again lock Rynhardt Elstadt for their clash against the Lions in Johannesburg on Saturday.

According to Die Burger, Coetzee might decide to give Elstadt more time for Western Province in the Vodacom Cup to improve his match fitness.

Elstadt played for WP in their Vodacom Cup win over the Sharks XV in Durban over the weekend after an eight-month-long injury.

"It was good to see the intensity Rynhardt played with for WP," said Coetzee.

Eben Etzebeth was exceptional as Andries Bekker's lock-partner in Elstadt's absence and the coach admits it's a "nice" problem to have with all his locks fit again.

"What is the best for Rynhardt to get him sharp for the tour which lies ahead: Another 60 or 80 minutes in the Vodacom Cup, or 20 to 40 minutes in Super Rugby?"

Coetzee may well opt for the 60 to 80 minutes of Vodacom Cup rugby for WP against the EP Kings in Crawford this weekend.

Another lock ready to return after a long injury lay-off is Hilton Lobberts. SAPA reports that Lobberts will have a run for the Vodacom Cup side this week before moving up to the Stormers' training group.

Meanwhile, the Stormers won't be able to call on the services of prop Deon Carstens for the next two weeks. He played 39 minutes for WP over the weekend before breaking his nose.

"He will only be operated on Thursday or Friday, which means he won't be available for the next two weekends," said Coetzee.

But with the way the Stormers have dominated in the scrums recently, Carstens's absence is hardly a crisis.

I know that Etzebeth s very good but wow, Eltdadt is also a incredibly good player I tell you. Oh well, goodluck to all the South African teams. NZ rugby is looking good but I know we can blast them away!

Like the way you think Isak!!!!!!!!! Saffa also said it will give us an extra lineout option if Elstadt is at 7.I would however feel for Koster as he has not done much wrong.

@Isak & Lionel although i love the Idea of Stormers having such a physical pack I cant help but remember this is a very long season. Having 3 second rowers of this caliber is great. AC can rotate them giving each guy small breaks. They will need them this year. Nick has been playing well.

      hvanderlinde - 2012-03-20 07:55

Start with Koster and bring Rocky on in the latter stages as a replacement for him. Not for Etsebeth. Now I reallly hope AC reads these blogs

      Lionel - 2012-03-20 08:05

True, season is long and rotation is needed!!!!Any news on Deon Fourie yet???

  • Bulldozer - 2012-03-19 22:41

Didn't know he had one mind.

      Stormkaap - 2012-03-19 22:57

Outwitted your mutiminded coach last season.

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-19 23:00

Not the last time they played.

      Stormkaap - 2012-03-20 06:11

The last time I remember you didnt make the playoffs and therefore your coach was outwitted

      Japjapjap - 2012-03-20 08:53

All these players are absolutely amazing superstars... if you’re living in the land of confusion...

      hvanderlinde - 2012-03-20 09:55

The only confusion I saw was the look on Bakkies' face when Rocky ( a kid half his age) owned him last year

  • Stormkaap - 2012-03-19 22:57

Simple issue. Play Elstadt off the bench.

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-19 23:07

I believe Bekker already owns the bench.

      Jason Children - 2012-03-20 05:57

its a long season, we will need all the boys! rotation rotation rotation!

      Stormkaap - 2012-03-20 06:12

Very smart and you forget about your toyboy Hellberg and after that affair he cant even make the bench

      Stormkaap - 2012-03-20 11:49

Rave,The issue is that Bekker got off the bench and did his thing on the field.. Hellberg now plays for Tuks..couldnt get out of granma's bed.. and what happened to that prop of yours..beating up on people and that ex player of yours that went around chopping up people. Doesnt look like loftus has good influence on people!

  • Stormkaap - 2012-03-19 22:58

And you should play Francis oof the bench as well

  • Frans - 2012-03-19 23:27

Bulldozer only an idiot of your sorts will demostrate his stupidity in the way you do Allister Coetzee's success record as a coach speaks for it self.As a stormers supporter i have respect for the bulls coach although they did'nt have a good season last year. Think before you talk and grow up.

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-19 23:54

''Allister Coetzee's success record as a coach speaks for it self''. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! Breathe. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!

      Jason Children - 2012-03-20 05:55

@sean and dozer, come on guys stop being such haters. AC for the past few years has had the Stormers there or there abouts at the business end of Super Rugby, he is also a world cup winning assistant coach. so yes his record speaks for itself. Not many active coaches can boast a world cup medal.

      Stormkaap - 2012-03-20 06:14

The Bulls supporters are just naar.. with all their Bokke last season they played poorly. frankly they even look a better side this season. They just need to replace their captain with CJ Stander then thay may even challenge for the conference cup.

      Sean - 2012-03-20 08:25

Now imagine we would all support the same team , how boring :) Go Sharks !
