Pretoria - Springbok and Bulls eighthman Pierre Spies has undergone two operations over six hours to repair a ruptured bicep.
Spies will miss a large part of the 2014 season after he was ruled out of action due to the arm injury.
It was the same injury that sidelined him in June last year, resulting in him missing the remainder of the 2013 season.
Spies first experienced pain in his upper arm after the Stormers Super Rugby warm-up match in January this year.
A MRI scan and ultrasound of the area did not show any damage, but because the pain did not go away after the opening Super Rugby match against the Sharks, two other opinions were called for.
After more scans these specialists found bleeding and a ruptured bicep.
Spies was operated on at Unitas Hospital where he Tweeted the following pic along with this message: "So this is me after 6 hours and 2 operations. I feel like that pic against the wall! #mandown #dizzy pic.twitter.com/mdqvmQMgHB"
