Smit: Lourens a valuable asset

Cape Town - Sharks CEO John Smit says prop Lourens Adriaanse will add huge value to the union when he joins them from next year.

The Sharks on Monday confirmed the signing of the Griquas tighthead prop on a two-year deal. This comes after Sport24 reported last week that the Durbanites had lured Adriaanse's services.

Adriaanse will officially join the Sharks in November to participate in their pre-season training ahead of the start of the 2014 Super Rugby tournament.

“Lourens has displayed his immense potential and value as a tighthead prop and is a good addition to our squad. We look forward to welcoming him to the Sharks family," said Smit.

Confirming the signing, Sharks Rugby Commercial Manager, Rudolf Straeuli, added: “We have been impressed with Lourens' performances for both the Cheetahs and Griquas. He has a good work-rate around the park and will add depth to our tight five.”
