S15 odds preview - Week 9

Cape Town - After tipping every game correctly last weekend we have decided to pick our own Sport24 Multiple bet of the week to go with our weekly preview! The preview below explains our multiple-bet picks in more detail.

A closer look at Super Rugby, Week 9 action with Bet.co.za:

Friday's action:
(All kick-off's SA time)

Highlanders v Blues (Dunedin) – 09:35
Odds: Highlanders 5/10 Blues 81/50

The Blues have been the Highlanders bogey side in this competition having won the last six encounters between them; they are going to have to perform well above expectations to keep this incredible record intact! Having gone from bad to worse they will have to dig deep against the Highlanders who are fresh off their bye. Although losing to the Sharks last week, if a few passes went to hands the Blues could have coasted to a victory! Ranger and Nonu will be key this week and if they step up it should be closer than folks are anticipating.

Prediction: Highlanders win by 2 points

Reds v Stormers (Brisbane) – 11:40
Odds: Reds 23/20 Stormers 7/10

Although on paper this looks like Stormers should cruise this game it may not be as simple as that! The Reds have just come off a bye after a great win against the Brumbies at the Fortress Suncorp stadium taking their record to 17 from the 18 home wins. The Reds are also expected to have a few guys back from injury whereas the Stormers have been struck with injuries of their own including their inspirational captain, Jean De Villers in the midfield. Bekker may also miss the clash which could be costly against an excellent Reds lineout! The Stormers with the best defense in this competition should be able to hold out the reds attacking attempts and win this game, but don’t expect a walkover by any means! A Stormers victory by 1-12 points is recommended in the multiple of the week.

Prediction: Stormers by 5

Saturday's action:
(All kick-off's SA time)

Hurricanes v Crusaders (Wellington) – 09:35
Odds: Hurricanes 2/1 Crusaders 4/10

Dan Carter is set to play his 100th Super Rugby game but his celebrations will be short-lived if Crusaders are not able to keep up the standard of rugby they played last week! If they can do this, they should win fairly easily. Hurricanes are fresh off the bye after giving the Sharks a hiding and will be full of confidence. These Kiwi Derbies are always great to watch and are played at a frenetic pace! The Hurricanes open brand of rugby has served them well against the less competitive sides, however they will need to tighten things up against the Main title contenders the Crusaders, who will make them pay for any errors! This game will be worth cancelling breakfast with the in-laws!

Prediction: Crusaders by 10

Waratahs v Rebels (Sydney) – 11:40
Odds: Waratahs 11/100 Rebels 26/5

The Waratahs although winning last week where not all that convincing! They seemed well in control of the game before letting the Force back into it! They will have to be a lot more clinical to have any chance of playoff aspirations. You feel though that this week against the Rebels, even if they are not clinical they should notch up an impressive victory! The Rebels are terrible on the road; this is proven by an eight match losing streak. Although this year their backline have shown a lot more promise with their superstar signings, the forwards will once again be in the spotlight if they are to keep this one respectable! The Waratahs will be content with nothing less than five points as their draw after this game is a tough one! They will play the Crusaders, Brumbies, Bulls and Stormers in coming weeks. This score line could get big. Waratahs win is in the multiple of the week.

Prediction: Waratahs by 16

Sharks v Chiefs (Durban) – 17:05
Odds: Sharks 18/25 Chiefs 11/10

The Sharks will be fairly content with the eleven points they secured on their tour of Australasia, however the manner in which they lost to the Hurricanes will still haunt them. They are a total different kettle of fish at home but they will have their work cut out against a Chiefs outfit that are on a five match unbeaten record, playing some spectacular rugby on the way to getting there! Their electric backline has had many eyes cast on it, but their forwards are doing the hard grind too. They are a complete side and the Sharks will have to have one of their better games in order to beat them! Historically the encounters between these two sides have been extremely close, and this one shouldn’t be any different! The Sharks should come out firing but due to the long Travel back they could fade in the last quarter of the game. It is recommended in the multiple of the week, for the Sharks to be winning at half time and the Chiefs win the game.

Prediction: Chiefs by 5

Bulls v Brumbies (Pretoria) – 19:10
Odds: Bulls 4/25 Brumbies 9/2

The Bulls will be looking for another clinical performance before they embark on their Australasian tour! They are currently joint leaders of the South African conference (with the Stormers). They will be looking for a full house of points against a well drilled Brumbies outfit. The Brumbies have a poor record in South Africa wining only two of their last nine games and with a very young side, this will be a massive test for them! JJ Engelbrecht had a superb game last weekend and will be looking to build on it to cement his place! He is an outstanding prospect for South African rugby and an eye should be kept on him! The Bulls should be able to win this fairly comfortably and will be gunning for a four try bonus point! The multiple of the week includes a Bulls outright win!

Prediction: Bulls by 15

Byes: Force, Cheetahs and Lions.
