Johannesburg - The Lions have made a drastic change to their side that takes on the Sharks at Coca-Cola Park on Saturday, with former Leopards scrumhalf Michael Bondesio earning a place in the match-22 ahead of Rory Kockott.

Lions coach John Mitchell confirmed that the former Sharks player, Kockott, will be pursuing a career overseas.

"Rory's future is in France, so I thought it was important that Michael Bondesio gets experience at Super Rugby before we close this campaign - bearing in mind that he's definitely our future," said Mitchell.

Can't blame Kockott for going overseas. In my opinion he ranks in the top four in SA in terms of ability, but more importantly in terms of BMT and 'mongrel'. He has consistently been overlooked.

      LDP - 2011-06-09 18:01

Agreed, he started as a sub at the Sharks, just as he was getting some starting time, John Plumtree decided he preferred Charl McCleod. He moved to the Lions, and has not started much at all. Yet he is a fantastic scrum half whose kicking for posts is not too shabby either. Good for him. If you don't get game time in your prime, then move on. Definitely can't blame the guy.

      Grunk - 2011-06-09 18:56

He should have been the No1 choice for the Boks 3/4 years ago but was overlooked. The best of luck to this gutsiest of players and thanks for the memories.

I tend to agree with your sentiments Mike, LDP and Grunk. He is a treat to watch on the field. I love his 'mongrel' attitude and the stealing of a metre or so when the ref isn't looking. But then you have to ask the question why three top refs have benched him. I don't know, but maybe there is another part to him that we don't see on the field.

Kockott has ability yes but he has a terrible attitude. He's arrogant and short tempered....

The reason Kockott stopped playing opening position for the Sharks was because of his hot head, he is a lose canon and we can't afford to play gmes with 14 men, he dug his own grave.

Where in France? They like to fight there, so Kockott will feel right at home.

    Well done John Mitchell.

I actually started to like him at the Lions, I thought he was better than Vermaak.

So 'n allenige stemmetjie in Afrikaans. Kockott het my nog nooit beindruk nie. Sy diens is middelmatig, skoppe nie veel beter nie, en sy arrogansie is een te veel. Neewat top 4 van SA skrumskakels aikona - top 10 ja.
