Sydney - The Super Rugby tournament's head of referring has acknowledged that an officiating blunder was to blame for the Brumbies' 36-34 loss to the Bulls on Saturday.
SANZAR game manager Lyndon Bray said on Thursday the Bulls' second try of the match was awarded in error, with both South African referee Marius Jonker and assistant referees Lourens van der Merwe and Stefan Breytenbach missing a clear knock-on from Bulls player Morne Steyn.
CJ Stander ran on to score after everyone else - including his Bulls team-mates - stopped and waited for the referee to call the infraction.
Bray was quoted as saying Stander's try was "just a stone-cold mistake," adding Jonker has to put his hand up and say "we got it completely wrong."
