Brisbane - The Australian Rugby Union has announced plans to use equipment that will show the television viewer a referee's eye view of the action.
In a first for Australia and Super Rugby, the Fox Sports television broadcast will incorporate visuals captured from a camera worn in a headpiece by New Zealand referee Chris Pollock when he officiates the game between the Reds and the Waratahs at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday.
ARU chief executive Bill Pulver said Ref Cam had the full backing of Australian Rugby Union.
Pulver said Ref Cam was designed to deliver television viewers a unique perspective from the field of play and bring fans closer to the game.
SANZAR chief executive Greg Peters said SANZAR would continue to work with their broadcast partners on initiatives to enhance their coverage of the game and bringing pleasure to the fans by improving their viewing experience.
