Rebels' Fijian flyer signs new deal

Cape Town - Melbourne Rebels flyer Sefanaia Naivalu has signed a contract extension keeping him at the club through to 2017.

The Fijian-born wing only arrived in Australia in 2014, but has managed to establish himself as a first team regular in his first season of Super Rugby.

He already has four tries to his name, and Rebels boss Tony McGahan admits his rapid progression has surprised everyone.

"The progression and improvement is certainly impressive," said McGahan.

"I honestly didn't think it was possible to move up as quickly as he's done.

"We've got high hopes ... we think if Sefa continues to show what he's done and his appetite for learning continues I don't think there's any limits of what he can do."

The 23-year-old has settled in well in Melbourne and was delighted to have extended his stay at the Rebels, having initially made his name playing for Melbourne Rising in the National Rugby Championship.

"This is a great opportunity for me, and I am so excited to  re-sign in Melbourne", he said."I didn't want to go anywhere else.

"Melbourne feels like home to me now, and I actually prefer the cold weather here to the hot weather in Fiji."

The Rebels host the Chiefs in Melbourne this weekend.
