Springbok lock's season over

Cape Town - Springbok and Sharks lock Pieter-Steph du Toit has been ruled out for the rest of the year due to a knee injury.

The 21-year-old was injured in training on Thursday and subsequent scans have shown an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

The Sharks confirmed the news via their official Twitter account on Friday.

"Pieter-Steph du Toit underwent a scan confirming the news that he sustained an ACL injury and will be out for the remainder of the year," the union posted.

This is also a big blow to the Springboks as Du Toit was touted by many to have a long international career. He played two Tests last year.

Stephan Lewies has replaced Du Toit in the Sharks starting team for Saturday's Super Rugby match against the Reds at Kings Park.

Kick-off is at 17:05.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
