Off-field yellow for Reds No 15

Cape Town - Reds fullback Luke Morahan has been issued with an off-field yellow card after a dangerous tip tackle in their win over the Chiefs in Brisbane on Sunday.

Morahan contravened Law 10.4 (j): Dangerous lifting tackle, lifting a player from the ground and either dropping or driving that player’s head and/or upper body into the ground whilst the player’s feet are off the ground is dangerous play.

Morahan lifted Chiefs centre Sonny Bill Williams in a tackle that resulted in Williams hitting the ground with his upper body while his legs were still in the air.

The incident occurred in the 65th minute of the match, which the Reds won 42-27.

An off-field yellow card may be issued by the SANZAR citing commissioner for foul play incidents that are very close to, but in his opinion do not meet the red card threshold for citings.

The incident was acted on by referee, Marius Jonker, who penalised the incident.

Upon further review of the match footage the citing commissioner deemed an off-field yellow card was appropriate.
