Off-field yellow for Elstadt

Cape Town - Stormers flank Rynhardt Elstadt has been issued with an off-field yellow card for contravening Law 10.4 (m): Acts contrary to good sportsmanship, after their Super Rugby clash against the Bulls af Loftus Versfeld on Saturday evening.

The incident occurred in the 59th minute of the match, which the Stormers won 19-14.

Elstadt was involved in a tackle where he made contact with Bulls wing Akona Ndungane’s hair and continued holding his hair as they went to ground.

An off-field yellow card may be issued by the SANZAR Citing Commissioner for foul play incidents that are very close to, but in his opinion do not meet the red card threshold for citings.

In this case the referee for the match, Jonathan Kaplan, acted on the incident after a report from his assistant by awarding a penalty. Upon further review of the match footage the citing commissioner deemed an off-field yellow card was appropriate.

However, this was Elstadt’s third yellow card this season, and pursuant to Rule 6.1 of the SANZAR Judicial Rules, Elstadt must now appear before the Duty Judicial Officer.

His is offences are to be considered in the first instance by SANZAR Duty Judicial Officer Mike Heron.
