Off-field yellow for Arno Botha

2012-06-03 10:17

Cape Town - Bulls loose forward Arno Botha has been issued with an off-field yellow card for contravening Law 10.4 (e): Dangerous tackling, during their Super Rugby clash against the Stormers at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday evening.

The incident occurred in the 57th minute of the match, which the Stormers won 19-14.

Botha tackled Stormers wing Bryan Habana after the player had called for a mark inside the 22m area.
An off-field yellow card may be issued by the SANZAR Citing Commissioner for foul play incidents that are very close to, but in his opinion do not meet the red card threshold for citings.
In this case the referee for the match, Jonathan Kaplan, acted on the incident by changing the free kick to a penalty. Upon further review of the match footage the Citing Commissioner deemed an off-field yellow card was appropriate.

I agree with this yellow and the one Rynhardt got for holding Ndunganes hair, but whats happening to the 2 forwards from the chiefs and blues who went to blows landing punches. there seems to be a definite lack of discipline dished out to the Kiwis.

Jason, there were also two spear tackles in the match yet only the Blues player is cited! The vagueness about whether citings count for Super Rugby or all Rugby is the problem. The Chiefs guy is porbably in the NZ squad :-). Ridiculous

      Rich - 2012-06-03 15:36

Sean, the Chiefs player (Nemani) has been cited for his tip tackle and no he's not in the AB's squad. Just because sport24 doesn't report it doesn't mean it hasn't happened.

Justifiable yellow card - but it does not take away from the fact that two local derby's were ruined by shocking refereeing decisions! to call the ref in the Sharks game incompetent is an insult to incompetent people! and Kaplan suffered from a severe case of Pink eye (at least the Stormers won)

      Press - 2012-06-03 11:46

Yes - especially those two "so-called" forward passess from which the Bulls could have scored . . . .

      Stormkaap - 2012-06-03 12:08

Press.. do u need a test from Mark Lawrence.. Too many forward passes has gone unpunished, just as Spies's 'try' was scored on Carstens boot..Stop complaining. The Cows lost.... period

      Jed - 2012-06-03 14:19

Press , what about Spies's so called try. How bad was that call. Score should have been 19-7 we beat the Bulls and the Ref, how good are we. Press go have your eyes tested IDIOT.

Stormers se verdediging GREAT. Of my span in pienk of blou speel, ek bly altyd 'n Bulls ondersteuner.

The idiot was suppose to be yellow carded right on the spot! You can't lift someone/tackle if they called a mark...seriously! But then 5min later the Stormers got yellow carded for a much lesser dangerous tackle? And how about that "try" by the Bulls: ball wasn't even grounded! A Stormer's leg was in the way...clear as daylight on the replay. Soooooo glad the Bulls lost! Loved showing off my WP bumper sticker on the highway this morning :D
