More unity at Lions - Ludeke

2012-07-13 07:44

Cape Town - Bulls coach Frans Ludeke is wary of their Super Rugby clash against the Lions as he feels there's a greater team unity at the Lions since the departure of John Mitchell as coach.

Mitchell was suspended as coach last month after a group of players presented a 'list of grievances' to GLRU president Kevin de Klerk. They were apparently unhappy with the way in which Mitchell had been treating them.

The Lions have again had a dismal Super Rugby season, winning only three of 15 games and occupying last spot on the log.

Johan Ackermann has since taken over as interim coach and Ludeke feels they're now a different prospect.

"The Lions are playing with greater dedication. You can see there's a unit now," he told Beeld.

"It is visible in the manner in which they defend and attack."

And Ludeke knows full well a slip-up against the Lions at Loftus Versfeld this weekend could bring their Super Rugby campaign to an abrupt end.

They are currently in fifth spot on the overall log with 54 points.

While they still hold their fate in their own hands, they did not do themselves any favours with last week’s 32-10 loss to the Sharks in Durban.

“We are one of the teams that are in a do-or-die situation, so you can’t get too worried about it,” Ludeke told SAPA.

“We just need to make sure we do what we have to do on Saturday.

“The mindset at the moment is that we make sure we get a result on Saturday," said Ludeke.

The clash at Loftus Versfeld kicks off at 19:10 on Saturday evening.

Getting a bit nervous Frans:):):) Still think the Bulls will be to strong but Go Lions. Morning All

      mvw74 - 2012-07-13 07:54

I have the bulls by 31 points on Super Bru. Stormers 4 Life!!

      lionel.kemm.9 - 2012-07-13 07:55

Bit much hey Boet hahahaha,I think it will be a lot closer than what we all think.

      mvw74 - 2012-07-13 07:58

I know as much as I hate to admit it but the Bulls are very dangerous when pushed into a corner. Just hope the Stormers finally get their 4 tries!

      lionel.kemm.9 - 2012-07-13 08:01

If the weather holds out I think we should

      mvw74 - 2012-07-13 08:04

Well I believe the weather is going to be fine and mild so no more excuses. Our boys owe it to the fans but mostly to themselves.

      paul.sdoow - 2012-07-13 08:07

only got bulls by 16 cause the lions will be determined to prove a point and mb at scrummi they will operate quicker and mapoe is a dangerous player if he gets space so it will be a good match first half but the bulls should grind out first half and edge on second half away from lions the superbru match that's the pickle this week is chiefs and highland which one wants more at full time . . top of log or a possible play off place . . .

      mvw74 - 2012-07-13 08:12

paul I really hope the Hurricans pull this one off and allow the Stormers to take the top spot. its going to be very exciting this weekend!!

      lionel.kemm.9 - 2012-07-13 08:18

I agree Michael,Canes are gonna get all of our backing So much rugga tomorrow....I love it

      paul.sdoow - 2012-07-13 08:35

mvw i do too but that would stuff my superbru up. i think the chiefs will win narrowly but it will be the choice one to watch as both sides can tear holes and defensively both are relatively similar in style. should be a penalty or two variance i think.

      boltonbarry - 2012-07-13 08:35

thats about 40 points to much :-)

      paul.sdoow - 2012-07-13 08:40

purpose we could all wish a bonus who stormers . loss for chiefs bonus for reds bonus for sharks and then only a who for bulls but we all know that won't work out by end of tomorrow. but lets hope for 3sa sides . . . yes bulls included . . . just will give a boost going into four nations. and a wake up call for selections hm just needs more balance of playing styles not just big up front.

      jason.children - 2012-07-13 08:55

Tomorrow is predicted Sunny with Showers max of 15, so if there is a small chance of rain it will be in Newlands. But i doubt it will be as bad as last week.

      paul.sdoow - 2012-07-13 09:04

after this week it will still be soft under foot. even the sun now is not enough to dry out the pitch s lets hope the drainage works well cause i would enjoy seeing the true back line potential. and dry conditions will certainly help fourie on 8th man.

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-13 09:33

Lions v bulls article talking about weather in the fair cape. So bi curious

      paul.sdoow - 2012-07-13 10:02

ya well might as well worry what the weather is doing here as the semi and he final will be here . . for the canes ahead at present.

      lionel.kemm.9 - 2012-07-13 10:05

@Paul,holding thumbs for the Canes to kep their lead, will be a great start to the weekend

      paul.sdoow - 2012-07-13 10:14

yes for stormers but my wallet won't enjoy a cane win. we got a pot at work on superbru and we are three at the top with only a few points between and i got chiefs down other two got canes so my other results need to be spot on like last weekends results. but yes a home final will be great for wpru coffers !

      lionel.kemm.9 - 2012-07-13 10:14

      Good luck:):):)

      paul.sdoow - 2012-07-13 10:18

hey 15-15 will ok for my bru and for stormers . . . go draw go draw. and tom you go draw with your crayons boet. i see you got one thumb up . . . shame you need to give yourself one to feel better.

I'm a Lion supporter, but they always had a problem with discipline and authority. Frans should know he was there. I say get rid of every one in the Lions union from top to bottom, players included, get a new home stadium a complete O/H. Get players who whant to play. As this moment I feel like telling them cheers for good.I was a loyal supporter from the Old Tranvaal days. But enough is enough, sorry for the guys who tried there best. But after more than 30 years of supporting them I think it is time to move on. Viva Buccaneers.

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-13 12:28
