Ludeke backs Bulls to go top

2012-03-28 14:03

Pretoria - Bulls coach Frans Ludeke is confident his side can uproot the Stormers as conference leaders in their Super Rugby encounter in Cape Town on Saturday.

If the three-time champions win the clash they will replace the Capetonians as the SA conference leaders, but Ludeke said on Wednesday he was well aware of the challenge they faced.

“They are a very good side and we respect what they’ve done the last two, three seasons," Ludeke said.

"They topped our conference last year, but it is a totally different campaign this year.

“We also feel like we’ve prepared well, and a lot of things are working well for us, and that’s what makes our contest such a special event, because we are playing against a good side.”

The Bulls are fresh off a 61-8 demolishing of title holder the Reds in Pretoria at the weekend.

Ludeke, however, would not allow his side to lose perspective of the hard work that lay ahead of them in the competition.

“At the end of the day the result matters the most," he said.

"A team can win ugly, but it is important that you progress in your campaign.

“In each match there are things that we feel we can do better, and one of those is to be more accurate with our penalties.

“This weekend it was better than any other week but there were one or two that we felt were unnecessary, and you don’t want to give the opposition a chance in the match.”

Though his side scored eight tries against the Reds, Ludeke admitted they had let a few chances slip in the first half and he hoped his charges would make up for that against the Stormers.

“Field position will be important," he said.

"I think there were opportunities in the first half, and if you get there you want to finish."

The Bulls minder named an unchanged run-on team to face the Stormers.

One change was made to the bench, however, with replacement hooker Willie Wepener ruled out due to an infected nerve in his face.

Wepener was replaced by 21-year-old Bongi Mbonambi, who could earn his first Super Rugby cap.

“Luckily the injuries didn’t play a role this week. It’s only Willie Wepener with his ear,” Ludeke said.

“It is a nice opportunity for Bongi, one of our youngsters who came through our system from schoolboy level.”

That's the way I like it.

      Andre - 2012-03-28 14:12

@Bulldozer, Ludeke is 'n 2x Super Rugby championship coach. As daar iemand is wat weet waarvan hy praat is die die man!!!!! Go Bulle!!!

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-28 14:15

Jy weet dit, tjom. Jy weet dit.

      Jason - 2012-03-28 14:23

Check at you two getting hard over Ludeke.........................its kinda cute!

      Saffa - 2012-03-28 14:28

@Jason - and "Oom Wynie" makes 3.........(dear stars I would need a shrink to remove that image from my conscience)

      Lionel - 2012-03-28 14:29

lol@Jason.brings a new meaning to "Liefling"

      Rene - 2012-03-28 14:31

@Dozey, the Bulls have a very good record at Newlands, we lost there in 2010, but that was after we've already qualified and we sent our G - team down to Newlands - last year we beat them at Newlands and as far back as 2007 (did not check further). Frans, our supporters are 100% behind you guys! Will not be a high scoring match, probably boring to watch- these games normally are, never live up to the 'hype' - I hope for a good entertaining game though!

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-28 14:32

Saffa, I remember when I was younger and hanging around Loftus, oom Wynie always used to hand out candy to me and the other youngsters. He let us play with his balls as well. Double whammy!

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-28 14:33

René, I don't want to sound like ol' Isak, but we know how this is going to end. Bulls by 8.

      Lionel - 2012-03-28 14:38

LMAO@Dozey,Gert van Rooyen en Wynie related????

      Rene - 2012-03-28 14:40

@Dozey, talk about ol'Isak, where is the man??? Oh deary me, all the stress during the week, hope he's OK?

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-28 14:40

Ek weet nie of my pa en oom Wynie mekaar geken het nie.

      Jason - 2012-03-28 14:41

Bwahahahahahaha sometimes you Muppets cheer me up! really! hahahahahaha

      Saffa - 2012-03-28 14:55

@Dozey - ok, you have officially made me fall out of my vehicle with laughter. That 'Oom Wynie' angle has never been far from my thoughts - and you nailed it, in one. :) On a serious note: can anyone from the Bulls camp tell me what it ACTUALLY is Oom Wynie does? (Apart from console injured players and drag that laptop around - which I doubt he even knows how to boot) - No disrespect intended, I just want to know what it IS he actually does?

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-28 15:10

Oom Wynie does the same as Chippy Solomons. He just doesn't look so miserable all the time.

      Saffa - 2012-03-28 15:14

@Jasoneye Well at least Ludeke can get some hard, your 11 chins though...

      Saffa - 2012-03-28 15:15

Well then why doesn't he do what other team managers do? (How come he gets to do Burlesque impressions on the sidelines whilst other managers actually 'manage' from the same position?) Can't wait to see him - always my highlight of the Bulls CT visits......the sideshows.

      Saffa - 2012-03-28 15:24

Hello Dr van Zyl. Nice to 'hear' you. All good in your hood old chap?

      Saffa - 2012-03-28 15:27

Saffa, all good thax, coffee still to kick in though. What about you?

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-28 15:40

René, sorry I only respond now, I somehow missed your comment. Isak has been around today, but has been arrested for 'lelik op straat'.

      Saffa - 2012-03-28 15:54

All good thanks. You do realise how confused the folk are with (I believe) 3 Saffa's on the forum now? I would appreciate it though, if some folk stopped sending me 'hate' messages on Facebook meant for you....

      Johan - 2012-03-28 16:06

Rene, it is NEVER boring to see the stormers loose!

      Saffa - 2012-03-28 16:07

Certain @Raven...... I am not an Ortho surgeon living off shore. Besides...the hate mail I get (meant for me) is always in the same primitive language (Jou ##### se ##### muni Pta toe kom nie ons sal jou dood **** ) etc etc etc. The hate mail I get intended for the doc is from Capetonians....always beautiful grammar...... ,

      Saffa - 2012-03-28 16:14

@Johan - in the same way it NEVER gets boring seeing a grown man spell LOSE: LOOSE! (always good for a ROTFLMFAO).

      Saffa - 2012-03-28 16:16

Saffa, sorry about that, I guess I really get under a few peoples' skin, which is the purpose of being on here. Tell them that they should forward all hate mail to Saffa Olivier (WO surname)

      Saffa - 2012-03-28 16:38

@Raven - you would be surprised what people send me :) Folk are a little too precious, as I have said before. Dr van Zyl (the other Saffa) and I go way back on rugby blogs - oh it is true which is why I would actually be pretty civil to the man in real life (he in fact moves in the same valley as what I move in....and he studied at the finest varsity in the country). He is on this forum to aggrevate - and it works. I have no issue with that at all - most on here know which profile is mine, and which is his. @Paul - I doubt they will react to any request from me - far too much frothing at the mouth in those messages.

      bloedisblou - 2012-03-28 17:27

      bloedisblou - 2012-03-28 18:20

Dozer, dis hoekom hy loopstraat prossies bekruip!

  • Japjapjap - 2012-03-28 14:19

Ek dink die stormers gaan baie goed speel, die eerste 10 minute??

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-28 14:34

      Solank hulle dit geniet.

  • Sulaiman - 2012-03-28 14:23

Glad the Stormers put Elstadt in the starting 15. Will be a better battle upfront against the bulls. I think Stormers are also a bit light in the backline. Would prefer Gio at the back with Van Der Heever on the wing.

  • Jan - 2012-03-28 14:26

Ou Hendrik, "welcome to your worst nightmare" Hierdie manne in pink gaan julle stukkend speel!

  • Bulldozer - 2012-03-28 14:27

Just a friendly reminder too all. Whatever the result, I will not be commenting straight away after the game, since I'm going to Newlands. I can already see ''Waar's daai grootbek Bulldozer?!". Gee asb vir my n uurtjie of so om by die huis te kom. Groete.

      Lionel - 2012-03-28 14:36

You will only make it home in one hour if you leave early my friend and one only leaves early if ones team is losing,se dit vir jou iets:):)

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-28 14:42

Or if the scoreline is something like 75-14.

      Jason - 2012-03-28 14:44

As he said Lionel "waars daai grootbek Dozer" and someone would also only say that if the Bulls Lost.................So Dozer's subconscious is shining through!

      Lionel - 2012-03-28 14:53

Could happen Dozey,or no I dont think so,probably other way around!!!!! Jason.these boys are very nervous for Saturday, some have already admitted it!!!

      Dirk - 2012-03-28 14:55

Net 'n uurtjie?

      Saffa - 2012-03-28 14:56

Give me 6 hours to get home after the or lose - there are always places to go, people to see etc.

      Lionel - 2012-03-28 15:05

Ja ja Raven,Habana is starting to look good dont you think????

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-28 15:12

Dankie Dirk. Jason, what does 'subconscious' mean?

      Jason - 2012-03-28 15:39

@Dozer..................ummmm not sure....heard someone mention it in passing and thought it sounded impressive! We grasp at straws here in the Cape..........................Tik Straws!

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-28 15:41

He he he he, Jason. good one.

      Saffa - 2012-03-28 17:59

@Jasoneye I still can't get over the fact that you have 11 chins, aren't u ashamed?

  • Fred - 2012-03-28 14:29

  • Stormkaap - 2012-03-28 14:39

What was he supposed to say... we will lose! How much confidence would that instill in his players..

  • BlouMasjien - 2012-03-28 14:43

Have you heard about the Stormers new bra? All support but no cup

      Stormkaap - 2012-03-28 16:29

      Rene - 2012-03-28 14:54

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-28 15:13

Take care now, bye bye then.

      Saffa - 2012-03-28 15:16

@Pietertjie (Brad Pitt) Here I am now, once again, can you count to 3?

      Dirk - 2012-03-28 15:28

      Johan - 2012-03-28 16:15

  • Allan - 2012-03-28 14:50

This is one game I would not put money on, I am a proud WP/Stormer fan, however ek be k.k myself.

      Johan - 2012-03-28 16:16

      Lionel - 2012-03-28 15:21

Gert, dont give up your day job just yet!!!!!

      Saffa - 2012-03-28 15:27

I think this little poem has potential. It embraces the shame of playing in pink......I think this chap gets it in ONE. Although @Dozey - the bumble bee HAS to run the pink shirts close.....

      Saffa - 2012-03-28 15:39

@fake Saffa And imagine a team in pink with a bumble bee at flyhalf nailing another team at their home grounds by 20 points. Now that will be embarrassing

  • Pieter - 2012-03-28 15:30

I can't wait to see the Bulls in pink !

      Jason - 2012-03-28 15:43

Its not pink its Jacaranda Purple......................didnt you get the memo?

      Saffa - 2012-03-28 16:19

Jasoneye, you growing a 12th chin, urgently get on the treadmill fatso

  • Pomene - 2012-03-28 17:19

  • smabokela - 2012-03-28 17:37

Cannot wait for this game... bulls do this for us supporters and silence the stompies

  • Frans - 2012-03-28 18:25

      Saffa - 2012-03-28 18:45

@Frans Twak, die Bulls is in 'n ander klas man. 32-13 Bulls, se maar geluk Sondag

      bloedisblou - 2012-03-28 18:51

@saffa king, dit klink reg maat

  • bloedisblou - 2012-03-28 18:53

      Saffa - 2012-03-28 21:37

@Ken Coming from the man reckoning he is looking for intelligent conversation on here

  • Ken - 2012-03-28 21:07

I think this will be agreat game of rugby and no true fan of the game can be sure of the result. i hope my side win just to silence the horrible crowd that boo the opposition on to the field. Digusting behaviour

  • mvw74 - 2012-03-29 10:37

Well whatever happens I’m pretty sure everyone’s lighting a fire with some juicy steaks and a couple of cold beers! May the best team win fair and square and just enjoy the game….GO STORMERS!!
