Cape Town - Lions prop CJ van der Linde has been cited for alleged foul play in their Super Rugby clash against the Force in Perth on Saturday.

Van der Linde is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (m): Acts contrary to good sportsmanship, when he allegedly hit Force lock Toby Lynn at the back of a ruck while the players were involved in a clean-out.

The incident occurred in the 10th minute of the match at NIB Stadium, which the Force won 17-11.

The referee, Garratt Williamson, referred the incident to the citing commissioner by issuing a white card following a complaint by Force captain David Pocock.

Upon further review of the match footage the citing commissioner deemed in his opinion that the incident had met the red card threshold for foul play.

The citing is to be considered in the first instance by SANZAR Duty Judicial Officer Mike Heron.

The Lions should stick to something they know, and it's not rugby ...

If you grab someone in ahead clamp with your arm over his mouth, does that mean he bit you? You're not suppose to grab someone around the head.

My thoughts exactly!! If someone catches you in the mouth and locks you there it's going to look like you are biting!! I did not see CJ attacking his arm, but I did see Toby grab him around the face!! Common sense not used here!!!

Refereeing has become a bit of a farce in terms of fair play. Van der Linde was tackled around the face with an arm over his mouth. What kind of rugby is that? "Let's rip his head off" is not fair tackling, especially when he didn't have the ball! Then the "tackler" complains to his "mom" the ref - "sir, he bit me"? Both players should have been cited for foul play - not just VdLinde.
