Lindeque heading to Cheetahs

2013-05-30 09:03

Cape Town - Sharks centre Piet Lindeque is heading back to the Cheetahs to continue his rugby career in Bloemfontein.

The 22-year-old, who played outside centre for the Sharks against the Bulls in Durban last weekend, will join the Cheetahs in time for this year's Currie Cup, reports the Volksblad website.

Lindeque was a star in Free State rugby in his junior days, representing Grey College and Free State schools as a centre. He was then snapped up by the Sharks where his career struggled to take off.

However, his career was reignited this year when Sharks allowed him to play for Tuks in the Varsity Cup. His solid form subsequently prompted a Super Rugby call-up for the Sharks.

With the Cheetahs experiencing their best Super-season to date, Lindeque feels he will fit right into their exciting playing style.

"Piet is ecstatic to return to the Free State," said his agent, Jan-Harm van Wyk.

"It's a positive move for his career and I know he enjoys the Cheetahs' playing style... he believes it will enhance his game."

... Like rats leaving a sinking ship...

Probably because Johann Sadie is leaving. (Just a guess).

Happy to see him go. Has no real pace, defence like a broken sieve, and not ready for the big time.

Trav... trust me, once the Cheetahs have Piet Lindeque on par the Sharks will come knocking again.

Good young player, glad that the Cheetahs are getting some more young talent. Vrystaat

Or getting back some of their distributed wealth. Can't get filling up the other teams every year. ;-)

    Take Bosman with you please!

      Gary Doyle - 2013-05-30 10:52

Looking forward to seeing Whitehead and Jordaan again but Bosman has stood up very well under the circumstances for the Sharks when they've needed him.

A bit of a role reversal with Cheetahs now attracting players back to their hometown , shows you what a winning team can achieve. Coming from a Sharks supporter my hat is firmly in the Cheetahs camp to go all the way in the Super 15 this year. John Smit has a nice challenge ahead of him as he gets the Sharks and the union back on track.

From a sharks support- well done to him. The sooner daniels and plumtree get out of the sharks set up the better. They are stiffling talent. Look what they have done to konkawski. Good move lindeque.
