21 Feb 20:57
Well done to the Sharks, who bounce back after last week's loss to the Cheetahs. The Sharks were simply better in the wet conditions tonight. Tactically they were superior and they were better in the air than their opponents. They also, surprisingly, dominated at scrum time and their driving maul was a key attacking weapon, which enabled them to score a four-try bonus-point win.

FULL-TIME: Sharks 29-12 Lions

80'- But the Sharks defence is too solid as they bundle the Lions out...
21 Feb 20:54
80'- Finally, a scrum penalty for the Lions. They tap and go...
21 Feb 20:52
79'- A scrum for the Lions just outside the Sharks 22...
21 Feb 20:50

77'-  CONVERSION slotted by Lambie.

Sharks 29-12 Lions

21 Feb 20:50

76'- Marcell Coetzee gets his second try after another dominant maul from the Sharks.

That's also the bonus point for four tries for the Sharks.

21 Feb 20:49

76'- TRY to the Sharks!

21 Feb 20:48
75'- YELLOW CARD for Lions captain Warren Whiteley after the Lions concede another penalty in the red zone. He tapped the ball out of Reinach's hands...
21 Feb 20:47
74'- The Sharks opt for an attacking lineout, hunting a four-try bonus point...
21 Feb 20:46
74' - NO TRY. The TMO says Marais was in front of the ball, but the referee goes back for a penalty advantage which he was playing for the Sharks.
21 Feb 20:45

SP Marais dives over for what looks like a try, but the referee goes upstairs to see if a Sharks player was not in front of the ball. It all came after the Lions yet again failed to deal with a high ball...

21 Feb 20:43
73'- Yet another penalty at scrum time for the Sharks. Tonight was certainly the worst scrummaging effort I've seen from the Lions in a long while...
21 Feb 20:41
Lwazi Mvovo beats Ruan Combrinck in the air... (Gallo Images)
21 Feb 20:39
70'- Lions again building phases near the Sharks 22, but a forward pass scuppers their chance again...
21 Feb 20:38
69'- A whole host of substitutions on the field for both sides now...
21 Feb 20:37
68' - A break from Mapoe bring the Lions inside the red zone, but Jantjies then opts for a cross-kick, which Reinach does well to catch and take a mark.
21 Feb 20:35

65'- Elton Jantjies, who's now on for Boshoff, makes a crucial error when he kicks it dead from the kick-off.

Great appreciation of the laws by Heimar Williams who held his foot over the dead-ball line while the ball was still moving to make sure it goes dead...

21 Feb 20:33

64' - CONVERSION slotted by Lambie.

Sharks 22-12 Lions

21 Feb 20:32
63'- Marcell Coetzee barges over after a dominant driving maul from the hosts.
21 Feb 20:31

63'- TRY to the Sharks!

21 Feb 20:31
62'- Lions under immense pressure on their own line after Coetzee fails to handle a Lambie cross-kick. The Sharks then win a penalty on the ground. They opt for an attacking lineout...
21 Feb 20:30
61'- Relief for the Sharks as they win another scrum penalty.
21 Feb 20:28
59'- SP Marais puts the Sharks under more pressure when he kicks out directly into touch. Sport24 editor Garrin Lambley says he doesn't rate Marais at all. Tonight probably proves our editor right...
21 Feb 20:27
58'- Sharks subs: Chadwick and Mtembu off, Du Toit and Deysel on.
21 Feb 20:26

57'- PENALTY slotted by Boshoff.

Sharks 15-12 Sharks

21 Feb 20:25
56' - Lions penalty right in front as the Sharks fail roll away at the ruck. Easy three points coming up.
21 Feb 20:25
56'- Their new front row appears to have made a big difference.
21 Feb 20:24
56'- Lions back attacking inside the red zone...
21 Feb 20:22
53'- Oh dear, Lambie misses the kick! What a let off for the Lions!
21 Feb 20:21
52'- The Sharks win a scrum penalty and Lambie will line up a relatively easy kick.
21 Feb 20:20
51'- The Sharks look to hit right back and win a turnover right on the Lions 22m line...
21 Feb 20:19

50'- PENALTY slotted by Boshoff.

Sharks 15-9 Lions

21 Feb 20:18
49'- Combrinck fails to handle a cross-kick but the referee goes back for a penalty in front of the posts. Renaldo Bothma penalised for a high tackle. He also gets a warning from referee Rohan Hoffmann.
21 Feb 20:17
49'- A strong attacking surge from the Lions brings them into the red zone. They also have a penalty advantage...
21 Feb 20:15
47'- A terrific effort from Comnbrinck from far out, but he hits the upright. No luck for the Lions here tonight...
21 Feb 20:14

45'- The Lions win a penalty just inside their own half. They opt for goal, but it's Combrinck and not Boshoff who will take the kick.

21 Feb 20:12
43'- Cronje kicks out on the full to keep his side camped in their own half. From a tactical point of view, Cronje and Boshoff have both been pretty average tonight.
21 Feb 20:11
42'- Good defence by the Lions inside their own 22 sees them escape trouble, for the moment...
21 Feb 20:10
42'- The Lions have taken off their entire front row: Van Rooyen, Marx and Dreyer off, replaced by Coetzee, Van der Merwe and Redelinghuys.
21 Feb 20:09

41'- SP Marais is lucky to see his kick not roll over the dead-ball line. Clearly, the wet field held it up just enough...

Boshoff then makes a costly mistake when he drops the ensuing kick-off from his 22 directly into touch.

21 Feb 20:07

Welcome back for the second half!

Boshoff gets play started...

  • 80'

The Sharks win 29-12 with a bonus-point, bouncing back from last week's loss to the Cheetahs in ideal style. Meanwhile, the Lions suffer back-to-back defeats to start the Super Rugby season. Thanks for joining us. See you next week for more.

  • 78'

CONVERSION, SHARKS, LAMBIE. 29-12. Two more points.

  • 77'

TRY, SHARKS, COETZEE. 27-12. There it is. Sharks driving maul with Coetzee at the tail pays off once again. Bonus point.

  • 76'

YELLOW CARD, LIONS, WHITELEY. The offences mount up against the Lions as captain Warren Whiteley grabs Reinach.

  • 75'

So close for the Sharks in their hunt for the bonus-point try as Marais is called in front of the kicker before he grounded. Play will restart though with a Sharks penalty after Franco Mostert collapses a maul. Lambie goes to the corner and the line-out.

  • 74'

Yet another scrum penalty for the Sharks, which Lambie has sent into Lions territory. The hosts have been so dominant in that area today as time ticks on at Kings Park in Durban.

  • 71'

More decent possession for the Lions 30 metres out, but this time replacement Elton Jantjies' pass is forward so that's the end of that attack. Nine minutes for the Sharks to hold out.

  • 69'

So that is a ten-point cushion for the Sharks but they have some defending to do now as Mapoe collects a high tester before racing to within ten metres. However, a resulting kick cross-field is taken by Reinach who saves the Sharks there.

  • 65'

CONVERSION, SHARKS, LAMBIE. 22-12. Much better strike.

  • 64'

TRY, SHARKS, COETZEE. 20-12. There he is. At the tail.

  • 63'

And it seems the hosts have regrouped as a wise high kick from Lambie leads to the Lions offending on the ground. This penalty goes to the corner. They'll look to maul from five out.

  • 61'

Fortunately for the full-back, the Lions' throw isn't straight.

  • 60'

The Sharks are all over the place here as now Marais boots one directly into touch, handing a line-out to the Lions 35 out.

  • 58'

PENALTY, LIONS, BOSHOFF. 15-12. And it comes back to haunt the Sharks as they offend five metres from their own whitewash at the ruck. Boshoff will slot those all day long.

  • 55'

A missed chance from Lambie to take the lead back up to nine points after the Sharks won a penalty at the scrum. Poor kick.

  • 51'

PENALTY, LIONS, BOSHOFF. 15-9. A good passage for the Lions as over ten phases results in the Sharks offending. It was Bothma not using arms at the ruck so up steps Boshoff.

  • 48'

What is Tera Mtembu doing? He's just lifted Franco Mostert up in the air during a maul, costing his side a penalty near halfway which Ruan Combrinck looks to send over. He hits the post.

  • 45'

It's all very scrappy right now as play restarts with a Lions line-out bang on halfway. Replacement Robbie Coetzee to throw in.

  • 43'

That's a bad mistake from Boshoff now though as his 22 drop-out goes out on the full. The Sharks to pack down then here. But wait, before that the Lions send on a brand new front-row.

  • 41'

Welcome back. Boshoff kicks off with a low one, looking to catch out the Sharks. Reinach eventually boxes to Coetzee.

  • 40'

The first period comes to a close at a wet Kings Park, with the Sharks going in 15-6 to the good. Join us again after the break.

  • 37'

Lions ball on the Sharks ten-metre here as they look to further close the gap before the break. That won't happen though as the Sharks win one against the head. Huge shove from them.

  • 35'

Dale Chadwick is the next man penalised at the scrum, this time in the Lions 22, so it's an easy escape for the visitors.

  • 33'

PENALTY, LIONS, BOSHOFF. 15-6. A much-needed three points for the Lions after Bismarck du Plessis is penalised at scrum time for not driving straight. Good strike from Boshoff.

  • 32'

CONVERSION, SHARKS, LAMBIE. 15-3. Simple two points.

  • 31'

TRY, SHARKS, REINACH. 13-3. The scrum-half dummies before reaching out for the line. A growing lead in Durban.

  • 30'

The Sharks are eager to land another score here with Renaldo Bothma going close with a carry. It's an attacking scrum now.

  • 27'

    Lambie misses the difficult conversion.

  • 26'

TRY, SHARKS, NDUNGANE. 8-3. Simple from the Sharks. A cross-field kick after sucking in the defenders and Lambie has picked out wing Ndungane for a simple five-pointer in the end.

  • 24'

A huge chance for the Sharks there with a line-out five metres from the Lions line, but Bismarck du Plessis' throw is wayward. Lions scrum close to their own whitewash then. They clear it.

  • 22'

Van Rooyen is penalised 45 metres away from his own line so up steps Lambie from a similar position as before. He's missed this one but the Sharks will get the line-out soon after, 40 out.

  • 18'

And the home side ease out of their 22 with a maul soon after moving them up to halfway. A finely balanced first 18 minutes.

  • 16'

Here come the Lions soon after, taking it up with four carries. But the Sharks are defending well and win a scrum five out.

  • 12'

So we're all square here with the Sharks in possession, about to throw in from a line-out on their visitors ten-metre. It's lost.

  • 9'

PENALTY, SHARKS, LAMBIE. 3-3. What a kick that was.

  • 7'

But the Sharks win a penalty at a resulting scrum so up will step Lambie from long-range. A tough kick coming up here.

  • 5'

The Lions have a scrum on their own 22. They won't take any risks here you would think as the rain continues to come down.

  • 3'

PENALTY, LIONS, BOSHOFF. 0-3. The Lions are in front at Kings Park after Marcell Coetzee was caught offside. Marnitz Boshoff did the rest from distance. Great start for the fly-half.

  • 1'

Here we go with Pat Lambie kicking off. The Lions clear well.

  • 0'

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the final game of this Super Rugby round, between the Sharks and Lions. It's Kings Park in Durban the setting for this one as both sides hope to bounce back from their respective week one losses.

  • 0'

The Sharks welcome back Bismarck du Plessis while Odwa Ndungane, Lubabalo Mtyanda and Dale Chadwick come in for S'bura Sithole, Mouritz Botha and Tendai Mtawarira this week.

  • 0'

Meanwhile for the Lions, Jacques van Rooyen is at loosehead while Warwick Tecklenburg is on the flank, taking the place of the injured Jaco Kriel. Derick Minnie moves to the openside.

  • 0'

The rain has hammered down and is still falling in Durban, but not as heavy as it was. Horrible conditions for running rugby.
