Some controversy about the penalty awarded to the Cheetahs to give them the lead at the death.  The ref decided that the Blues were not looking to contest the rolling maul that he was penalising them for moving backwards.

Coenie Oosthuizen wins the Man of the Match award.

27 Feb 20:49

The Cheetahs make it 2 out of 2 in Super Rugby 2015!

They made over 100 tackles in that match, compared to the 30 of the Blues but they have run out victors.  Some brilliant tries from both teams, but at times the game was extremely scrappy as well.

The Blues have lost their first three games of the season for the first time in their history.

27 Feb 20:48
80' - The Blues are into the Cheetahs 22m area, the ball comes back to West who tries a drop goal... it sails just wide!  The Cheetahs have won in Bloemfontein!
27 Feb 20:46

79' - Pietersen makes no mistake.  The Cheetahs lead by 1.

27 Feb 20:45
78' - PENALTY to the Cheetahs.  This could be crucial as the Blues are judged to be moving backwards as the Cheetahs to looked to setup a maul.  Pietersen will kick at goal.
27 Feb 20:44
77' - PENALTY to the Cheetahs after a big scrum!  Pietersen sets up a lineout just inside the Blues 22m area.
27 Feb 20:42
76' - Plenty of mistakes from both sides now as the Blues on the attack in the Cheetahs 22m area managed to knock on again.
27 Feb 20:41
75' - A great chance for the Cheetahs after a clearance from West only gets around 10m outside his 22m area.  The Cheetahs cannot win their lineout however and Hendricks knocks the ball out into touch.
27 Feb 20:39

74' - West has no trouble sending that through the middle and the Blues lead again!

27 Feb 20:39
72' - PENALTY to the Blues now, straight out in front.  Uys was offside as the Blues moved into the Cheetahs 22m area.  West will kick at goal.
27 Feb 20:36

70' - Pietersen makes no mistake with that one! The Cheetah's lead with 10 minutes left in the match.

27 Feb 20:35
69' - PENALTY to the Cheetahs as the Blues infringe.  Pietersen will kick at goal from around 30m out and slightly to the right.
27 Feb 20:34
68' - PENALTY to the Cheetahs as the Blues collapse the scrum.  Pietersen clears into the Blues half. Patience needed from the home team now as they look to attack.
27 Feb 20:33
67' - Braid knocks on for the second time this evening, the Cheetahs have a chance to relieve the pressure.  They have not really had much of the ball in the last couple of minutes.
27 Feb 20:32
65' - PENALTY to the Blues as the Cheetahs are penalised for side entry.  The Blues setup a lineout in the Cheetahs half and have the chance to apply more pressure.
27 Feb 20:30

63' - TRY to the Blues!  Some slick handling between backs and forwards combined with a few missed tackles sees Kaino go over the line in the right hand corner.  West converts.

27 Feb 20:28

62' - Pretorius opts to try to force the Blues into their 22m area but he overcooks his kick and the Blues will have a lineout on halfway.

27 Feb 20:24

59' - West sends it wide, that is his first miss of the season.

27 Feb 20:24
58' - PENALTY to the Blues. The Cheetahs make heavy weather of clearing their lines but eventually they are penalised at ruck time.  West will kick at goal.
27 Feb 20:21
55' - The Blues are straight back onto the attack but their handling lets them down and they knock on.  Defensive scrum to the Cheetahs.
27 Feb 20:19

53' - TRY for the Cheetahs!  Another amazing score, this time Pretorius with some individual brilliance as he beats three men and gets over.  Le Roux had done brilliantly to field a little chip ahead and find Pretorius in space.  Pietersen converts.

27 Feb 20:17
52' - PENALTY to the Cheetahs, taken quickly by Pretorius and then knocked on.  The Cheetahs should have had another penalty there as the Blues had not retreated at all.
27 Feb 20:15
50' - The Blues are right back onto the attack, but an interception by the Cheetahs sees play taking right down to the Blues tryline!  The Blues will have a lineout.
27 Feb 20:14
48' - The Blues have fluffed a try scoring opportunity after Braid knocks on with the tryline at his mercy after a backhand flick by Tuipulotu put him in space.
27 Feb 20:12
47' - The Blues take a quick tap after Le Roux was ruled to be in front of a Cheetahs kick ahead.
27 Feb 20:11
45' - PENALTY to the Cheetahs as the Blues are penalised for side entry into a ruck.  Not much of an angel for Pietersen and he misses his touch.  The Blue return with interest and we have a Cheetahs lineout just inside their own half.
27 Feb 20:08
43' - PENALTY to the Cheetahs as Faumuina is penalised for collapsing the scrum.  Pietersen sets up a lineout in the Blues half, but Kaino makes the steal in the lineout and the Blues clear.
27 Feb 20:07
42' - The Blues hand let them down on the Cheetahs 22m area.  Defensive scrum to the Cheetahs.
27 Feb 20:06
41' - PENALTY to the Blues.  The Cheetahs are penalised for not rolling away. West sets up a lineout just inside the Cheetahs half.
27 Feb 20:05

Pietersen kicks off for the Cheetahs, they have the wind at their back this half.

27 Feb 19:55

The half time hooter goes in Bloemfontein.  The Blues hold a small two point lead going into the break.  Both sides are prepared to give the ball air as you would expect and we have seen two tries apiece.

27 Feb 19:53
40' - NO TRY! There was a forward pass in the build up play!  The Cheetahs breath a sigh of relief.
27 Feb 19:53

40' - The Blues are over again, but we have a TMO Decision, for an forward pass.  West has got over for the Blues after some brilliant handling between backs and forwards.

27 Feb 19:51

36' TRY to the Blues!  Piutau with an excellent break in midfield as he bounces off Mahoje. His is dragged down just short of the line but Faumuina is in support and gets over the line. Converted by West.

27 Feb 19:47

32' - TRY to the Cheetahs.  The maul was not really going anywhere and the ball came out to Pietersen who put in a cross kick for Le Roux who managed to palm it down to Hendricks.  Some brilliant passing sees Hendricks forcing his way over again.  Pietersen cannot convert.

27 Feb 19:44
31' - PENALTY to the Cheetahs after a very big scrum from them. Kaino took the ball from the back and the Prinsloo is all over him, forcing the Blues captain to hold on. The Cheetahs setup an attacking lineout.
27 Feb 19:42
28' - West takes the ball up but he is held up in the tackle, the ball breaks loose and Mahoje hacks it ahead, right into the Blues 22m area where Rhule knocks on.  He had more time to pick that up than he thought. Defensive scrum to the Blues.
27 Feb 19:39
26' - The Blues are using the strong wind to their advantage at the moment.  The Cheetahs have a throw in in their own 22m area, but it's not in straight.  Attacking scrum to the Blues, 15m out from the Cheetahs line.
27 Feb 19:37

24' - TRY to the Blues. Braid forces his way over after the Blues maul from the lineout.  West converts and the Blues have replied immediately.

27 Feb 19:36
23' - PENALTY to the Blues after a infringement in the lineout by the Cheetahs.  The Blues setup an attacking lineout, 5m out from the Cheetahs line.
27 Feb 19:32

19'  - TRY to the Cheetahs! Mahoje steals a lineout for the Cheetahs and after a few phases the ball came to the right where Le Roux found Hendricks with a beautiful pass.  The Springbok flyer cut inside, beat three men and scored!  Pietersen converts.

27 Feb 19:28
15' - The Blues have a defensive lineout in their own 22m.  They eventually clear down field and after some aerial ping-pong by both sidesWest rolls a kick out in the Cheetahs 22m area.
27 Feb 19:24
13' - Pietersen drifts that past the right hand upright.  There is plenty of wind out there tonight.
27 Feb 19:24
11' - PENALTY to the Cheetahs after a massive tackle in midfield. The Blues are penalised for playing the ball on the ground. Pietersen will kick at goal, roughly from straight out in front, around 45m out.
27 Feb 19:22
10' - Free kick to the Cheetahs as the Blues infringe.  Pietersen clears to the halfway line.
27 Feb 19:21
9' - Great defending by the Cheetahs as they managed to keep the Blues at bay. They manage to win a scrum feed as the ref had called a maul and the Cheetahs keep the ball up off the ground.
  • 80'

Full-time: The game ends with a missed drop-goal attempt from West. So close from the Blues fly-half but it is the Cheetahs who win here by 25 points to 24. Thanks for following with us.

  • 79'

PENALTY, CHEETAHS, PIETERSEN. 25-24. They lead here!

  • 78'

Chance for the Cheetahs comes too as Prattley is pinged for illegal binding, which leads to Pietersen sending his side up towards the Blues 22. And from there the Blues are penalised for not engaging the maul set up by the Cheetahs. Kickable...

  • 77'

A forward pass costs them. So many errors in the red zone.

  • 76'

It gets worse for the Cheetahs as West's clearance is touched in the air by Hendricks before it goes into touch, 20 metres from his own try-line. The Blues will look to maul from here.

  • 74'

PENALTY, BLUES, WEST. 22-24. The lead doesn't last long though as Cheetahs lock Francois Uys is caught offside. It's bang in front of the uprights, 25 out. Easy points for West.

  • 71'

PENALTY, CHEETAHS, PIETERSEN. 22-21 Two penalties in quick succession given away by replacement Ofa Tu'ungafasi and the second is in kickable range for Pietersen. It's over!

  • 68'

The Blues are looking to turn the screw here on the home 22 but another unforced error costs them at the vital time. If they go on to lose this fixture they will wonder how it happened.

  • 66'

CONVERSION, BLUES, WEST. 19-21. Solid from wide out.

  • 64'

TRY, BLUES, KAINO. 19-19. A great score from the Blues as Gibson-Park, West and Piutau combine to set up Kaino for a try on his 100th game. Pressure kick from wide out coming.

  • 62'

Changes coming on the Blues side as Steven Luatua and Jamison Gibson-Park come on for O'Connor and Cowan. The Cheetahs also make a change as Johan Sadie replaces Michael van der Spuy before a home scrum on halfway.

  • 60'

O'Connor pounces at ruck time so up steps West to narrow the gap. A wise decision if it goes over...but he's missed it. Ouch.

  • 58'

The Blues are showing their qualities again though with ball in hand, but yet again the offload is forced and it goes to ground. Cheetahs scrum five metres from their own try-line coming up.

  • 55'

  • 54'

TRY, CHEETAHS, PRETORIUS. 17-14. Wow. The scrum-half looked to have been contained but he weaved his way through and over the whitewash. The Cheetahs are back in front here.

  • 52'

Northcott is replaced by Francis Saili so more strike power on the field for the Blues, who rack up the phases just ten metres out. But wait, an interception from Pietersen relieves all of that pressure. Now it's the Blues under the pump, throwing five out.

  • 49'

And now so close for Braid as Tuipulotu's brilliant offload is not taken by the flanker, who was in under the posts. Cheetahs to put in then near their own try-line. Pressure scrummage here.

  • 47'

Serious skills on show from Piutau as he keeps Pietersen's clearing kick in play before replying back up to halfway, thus holding the Cheetahs at bay. They have possession though.

  • 45'

A bit of kick tennis to follow which results in the Blues throwing in on their ten-metre. Cowan box kicks from Tuipulotu's claim.

  • 43'

So much power from the Blues up front as flank Braid leads by example. However, Faumuina can't hold an offload soon after so it is a Cheetahs scrum on their own 22. They clear upfield.

  • 41'

Welcome back to coverage of this Free State Stadium clash between the Cheetahs and Blues. The New Zealanders are in front after a decent first-half. Let's see who is smiling in 40 minutes as Pietersen gets us going, down to centre Piutau.

  • 40'

The half ends with the Blues having a try chalked off from fly-half West, who is unlucky as Faumuina's pass is adjudged to be forward by the TMO. That's it for now, 12-14 to the Blues.

  • 38'

CONVERSION, BLUES, WEST. 12-14. He does just that.

  • 37'

TRY, BLUES, FAUMUINA. 12-12. Back come the Blues here, looking strong as half-time nears. They are in the home 22 and a bust from Tuipulotu then sees him offload to prop Faumuina for the score. West should put his side in front with the kick.

  • 34'

Pietersen has missed the difficult conversion attempt.

  • 33'

TRY, CHEETAHS, HENDRICKS. 12-7. Cross-field they go via the boot and it is Hendricks finishing off for his second score!

  • 32'

The hosts get another chance though as replacement Boom Prinsloo pounces at the breakdown to win the penalty. It goes into touch so here comes a line-out and maul from the hosts.

  • 30'

Wow what a moment as a stray pass from Cowan sees Mohoje hack downfield, with the chase well and truly on. He doesn't get there but Rhule does. But he can't gather the ball and fumbles.

  • 28'

The Blues' tails are up as Visinia pumps the ball in behind Le Roux and into the Cheetahs' 22. And the throw is not straight.

  • 26'

CONVERSION, BLUES, WEST. 7-7. We're all locked up.

  • 25'

TRY, BLUES, BRAID. 7-5. Rolling maul and Braid is over!

  • 24'

The Cheetahs pull down the maul and subsequently the Blues head to the corner. Parsons to throw then just five metres out.

  • 23'

The tempo has increased following that score but the Cheetahs must be wary not to be so expansive, as a pass goes forward. Blues scrummage now on halfway with plenty of width on offer.

  • 21'

  • 20'

TRY, CHEETAHS, HENDRICKS. 5-0. And they do! Width from the hosts before Hendricks cuts inside from the touchline and goes in under the uprights. Easy conversion coming up here.

  • 19'

The Blues look threatening once again with their offloads and power, but this time an intercept from Le Roux saves his side. The Cheetahs will look to make their visitors pay on halfway.

  • 16'

Brilliant from Le Roux though now as his mark and then boot downfield pushes the Blues back inside their 22. Now it's the New Zealand side who need to get out of their own red zone.

  • 14'

What a response from the Cheetahs as strong defence on the halfway line results in a penalty being won. Pietersen calls for the's about 40 metres out, straight in front. But it's wide.

  • 11'

But nothing comes of that passage as Kaino is contained in a maul, which leads to the ball being unplayable. Net result, the Cheetahs have a defensive put-in they will hope to kick clear.

  • 8'

Excellent phase play from the Blues before Kaino breaks the line on the left side, taking his side to within five metres. And the Cheetahs offend soon after. The Blues go for the corner.

  • 6'

What a clearing kick from Visinia as he launches one from his own 22 up to the Cheetahs 22. Unbelievable strike which leads to Torsten van Jaarsveld throwing in. Le Roux then clears it.

  • 3'

Good start from West as he breaks the line, leading to his pack setting up camp on the Cheetahs 22. However, the hosts have pounced at the breakdown and earn themselves a scrum feed.

  • 1'

Here we go then with Ihaia West kicking off. Let's hope for a great Super Rugby game between these attack-minded teams.

  • 0'

  • 0'
