Jake backs deadly Sharks duo

Cape Town - Cell C Sharks director of rugby Jake White has backed Patrick Lambie and Francois Steyn to form a formidable combination for the Sharks this Super Rugby season.

White told SA Rugby magazine's website that Lambie would be first-choice flyhalf for the Sharks this season and would play "80 minutes of every game" and said Steyn would bring a "massive amount of confidence" to Lambie by playing alongside him at inside centre.

White predicted the pair would form the "best 10-12 combination in Super Rugby" in the 2014 season.

The two Springbok and Sharks players had disappointing 2013 Super Rugby seasons as they struggled to find consistent form and Steyn suffered several injury setbacks during the course of the season, but White said he knew what made Steyn tick and was confident he could get the most out of the pair.

White described Steyn as "a prodigy, a sensational player, a freak", and said South Africa had not yet seen the best of Lambie.

The Sharks begin their 2014 campaign with a game against high-flying Saracens, who currently top the Aviva Premiership, at Allianz Stadium in London on January 25, but Lambie will miss the game due to his wedding.
