Cape Town - The Hurricanes could be a dark horse for this year's Super Rugby title.
After a slow start, the men from Wellington appear to be hitting form at just the right time after their 45-8 thumping of defending champions, the Chiefs, last weekend.
The bonus point win moved them into playoff contention heading into the last few rounds of regular season action.
The fifth-placed 'Canes are the best attacking team in this year's competition, according to statistics.
They have scored more points (383) than any other team in the competition this year and dominate several other key attack categories.
According to the official SANZAR Super Rugby website, the Hurricanes have scored the most tries (42) to date.
They have also made the most number of clean breaks (124), carries (1 635), gained the most metres (6 636) and beaten the most defenders (313).
Interestingly, in all these categories, the Waratahs are in second spot. The second-placed 'Tahs have scored 37 tries, made 108 clean breaks, 1 595 carries, gained 6 218 metres and beaten 249 defenders.
While their attack appears to the best, the Hurricanes' defence still needs some work. Their tackle success rate is 86.2%, which is only ninth best overall.
The Chiefs (88.3%) have the best tackle success rate, while the Stormers (88.0%) are the best defensive unit from South Africa in third spot behind the Rebels (88.1%) and Chiefs.
The Hurricanes next match is against the Blues at Eden Park in Auckland on Saturday (kick-off 09:35 SA time).
