Grant's honeymoon put on hold

2012-05-11 08:05

Cape Town - Recently married Stormers flyhalf Peter Grant is "too valuable for the team to allow him a honeymoon at present".

Grant, 27, got married last weekend, but backline coach Robbie Fleck told Die Burger any honeymoon plans for the newlyweds must be put on hold.

"Peter is too important for us to be on honeymoon now.

"The rugby he's currently playing is the best I've ever seen from him.

"He gets the ball over the advantage line, gets our centres into the game and kicks exceptionally well," said Fleck.

Grant has been successful with his last 16 kicks at goal for the Stormers and has played a big role in them winning eight of their nine matches this season.

The Stormers take on the Cheetahs at Newlands on Saturday(kick-off 19:10) and Fleck believes Grant is not far away from the Springbok team, especially with Cheetahs pivot Johan Goosen out for four months with a shoulder injury.

"Goosen was phenomenal for the Cheetahs and will probably be the next superstar of South African rugby.

"But recent statistics revealed at the Bok training camp showed that Peter's statistics are just as good as Johan's," said Fleck.

The Stormers currently lie fourth on the overall log with 41 points after nine games, with the Cheetahs in 10th spot on 26 points.

      Jed - 2012-05-11 08:32

      Jack - 2012-05-11 08:57

tell me about it - Francis is ample cover against the Cheetahs and Peterson can kick pretty well too!

      Johann - 2012-05-11 11:48

He will have a much better honeymoon with his super 15 champions bonus....Go Stormers.

Now I understand why he is at the top of the missed tackle stats!!

      rinus.groeneveld.7 - 2012-05-11 08:48

Most Missed Tackles 1. Beauden Barrett (Hurricanes) 30 2. Nick Phipps (Rebels) 29 3. Willem Alberts (Sharks) 26 4. Peter Grant (Stormers) 24

      steyts - 2012-05-11 09:03

Eish daai is lelik!!!! Hulle praat nogals hoog van Barrett in NZ so dis interessant dat hy bo aan die lys is...

      John - 2012-05-11 09:15

The stat that does surprise me is Willem Alberts. His chances of making the bok team are going backwards rapidly.

      paul.sdoow - 2012-05-11 09:58

do the stats show how many attempted and how many made? cause a player that misses 10 but has made a 100 tackles is far better than a player that misses 20 but only has made 30tackles. and stats will also show wp have made more tackles than other teams as the tries against are the least?? so i repeat the joys of stats only 36 percent of road accidents are cause by drunk drivers the other 64 percent is sober drivers. so oral is drink and drive its safer? ya right good one stats always can be manipulated

      Bossie - 2012-05-11 10:44

@Paul- jys reg! Want Pierre Siiiiieeeeeeesss se stats wys dalk hy het net 10 tackles gemis..maar in fact het hy die hele seisoen nog net 11 attempts ingesit. Aparently het hy teen die rebels 1 gekry.

      Johann - 2012-05-11 11:54

The only reason Pierre Spies is not top, is because he is avoiding taccle by covering at the back.

      BlouMasjien - 2012-05-11 09:10

      @LaBlue,Percy Montgomery,James Small . . . . . . .

Hoop darm Grant en wifey het saam gestem.

      Bossie - 2012-05-11 10:47

@JapJap- dink voor jy iets post- jou comments is of irrelevant of pleinweg nie snaaks nie

  • John - 2012-05-11 09:12

Whats the big deal? I postponed my honeymoon to go on a fishing trip with my mates! My wife still holds it against me 16 years later. We need Peter to bring the cup home. The missus is going to have to wait.

      paul.sdoow - 2012-05-11 10:00

sure hope you got some good fishing in otherwise it was a waste.

  • RockChick - 2012-05-11 09:59

IMO he is the best no 10 in SA at the moment. I agree Morne Steyn should have retired with Matfield and co. I certainly hope he makes the springbok team - he atleast gets the ball to the centres and over the advantage line... who cares about his tackling... he has other talents, and other players to make up for his "missed tackles" - is that not why there is centres?

      Gert - 2012-05-11 10:56

I'm not one for personal insults, but really? Do you even watch rugby? How many tries have grant created this season? Morne is miles ahead of Grant at the moment. Grant have kicked a total amount of kicks that is less than what Morne has to do in two games. Morne's backline have scored from skip passes as well chip kicks from his boot. Even when he is at his best, which he currently is, Grant isn't as good as Steyn is on an off day.

      Gert - 2012-05-11 14:32

Ah, I see two thumbs downs already. Just go and watch a reply of this morning's match. Grant can polish Morne's shoes.

  • Gert - 2012-05-11 10:16

It's a bit hard on the guy. I think his bride looked at the old S14 schedule. The Stormers' tournament was usually finished by now.

  • Johan - 2012-05-11 10:50

    But still very few tries!!

  • Lala - 2012-05-11 11:18

Peter is too important for us to be on honeymoon now. One of our best players, honeymoon will follow
