Grant sidelined for four weeks

Cape Town - Stormers flyhalf Elton Jantjies will have at least a month to play himself into form with the news that Peter Grant will be sidelined due to an ankle injury.

Grant, who turned his ankle in training last week, was not included on the Stormers' 22-man squad for their clash against the Brumbies at Newlands on Saturday night.

And according to Die Burger, Grant will be sidelined for at least four weeks.

"We will probably have Peter ready for our tour," coach Allister Coetzee said.

The Stormers' first game on their Australasian tour is against the Hurricanes in Palmerston North on April 26.

This means Jantjies will have games against the Brumbies (Saturday), Crusaders (March 30), Cheetahs (April 6) and Sharks (April 13) to find his best form. He has struggled since he joined the Cape side on-loan from the Lions and many pundits have called for the inclusion of the more physical and solid Grant.

Meanwhile, at the Stormers' team announcement on Wednesday, Coetzee recalled fit-again Springbok centre Juan de Jongh in place of Damian de Allende, who shifts down to the bench. De Jongh will partner skipper Jean de Villiers in midfield.

Other changes to the Stormers backline - from the side that started in the 36-34 win against the Chiefs two weeks ago - see Gerhard van den Heever come in for his first start, as a replacement for the injured Bryan Habana, while Dewaldt Duvenage takes over at scrumhalf from Nic Groom, who reverts to the bench.

There is just one change to the Stormers pack, with Springbok Tiaan Liebenberg, who made his comeback from the bench against the Chiefs, taking over at hooker and Deon Fourie starting amongst the replacements.

Joining Fourie, Groom and De Allende on the bench this week is Springbok back Jaco Taute - back in action again after taking a knock to his groin region against the Bulls in the Stormers' opening match against the Bulls.

Kick-off is at 19:10 on Saturday.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
