Not a bad side at all! Should be mouth watering stuff! or it could end up like my sex anti climax!

      Nico - 2012-02-29 13:29

hahahahahaha! think it depends how long before Grant takes the field, Gary was not convincing last weekend.

      Jason - 2012-02-29 13:33

My worry with Bash is that he has been playing a very low impact competition. Is his body ready?

      paul.ramncwana - 2012-02-29 13:53

@ jasoneye U c the difference between u and the game is that u are cheating on your left hand with your right hand. lol

    Sharks by 10.

      Annelise - 2012-02-29 13:32

Yes Marcus. Sharks loose by ten, fully agree!

      Johan - 2012-02-29 14:13

with a fly half like gary van aswegen playing make that 20!!!!

      Bulldozer - 2012-02-29 14:44

Balsak, want Malherbe en Carstens se name is nie uit die hoed uit getrek nie.

      Saffa - 2012-02-29 15:49

I for one am glad AC has decided to give Gary another run. The lad suffered serious injury last season (TWICE) and has earned the right (on his past potential and performances for WP, and at age group level) to be given another chance. He is talented as all hell folk (not in the Goosen mould - but then very few are), and like Jantjies/Lambie and co, he should at the very least be allowed to either prove himself the 'real deal' or not. Burton was good when he came on - but the coaches know what we have in him, as he spent enough time fringing around the Bulls and Lions with AMPLE gametime over the years. Gary has not had this luxury. You don't write a youngster off after one game folk - that is the problem with SA rugby. I have NO doubt all the Cape 10's will get more than enough game time this year. Good luck Gary - take heart young man.

I think Francis has been hard done by! While the season is long and if my memory serves me right Grant didnt play all that well last season.

      eric.viljoen - 2012-02-29 13:50

Before he got injured, I remember Peter de Villiers saying that he would be in contention for the Bok squad.

      Bootman - 2012-02-29 13:51

The problem with AC is that he can't make tough decisions. Burton Francis was miles better than Van Aswegen and should have gotten a start. Why is Peter Grant being rushed back into the setup? He he really that good? I think not. Jean De Villiers had a shocker. You would swear that he is our only option as captain. Van Der Heever had a decent game and gets relegated to the bench for his efforts. Well done AC.

      Stormkaap - 2012-02-29 14:18

Cant agree with u more Bootman. Grant also has a limited boot and his distribution is not superior to that of Francis. reminds me soo much of playing De Waal ahead of Cronje. furthemore clearly his allegiance has to be questioned here. Is Kobe being put ahead of the Stormers then if so he has to queue up to play , like the other flyhalves.

      John - 2012-02-29 15:44

To the contrary Grant was excellent up until he got injured. He did have one or two "not so good" games when he returned but further he was excellent. He was also in the high percentages in goal kicking. He also offers another dimension in defense and can play at 1st centre. If you recall the Stormers flying unitil flyhalves started dropping like flies. Agree on Francis - the Stormers looked a far better side when he came on.

      Stormkaap - 2012-02-29 16:26

John this is exactly what I'm saying.. if Francis is playing well reward him accordingly! Van aswegen should be playing off the bench and not Grant.

  • jmexsen - 2012-02-29 13:37

I think Burton francis should have gotten the spot and not van aswagen.....burton played better when he came on.

      Papa-storm - 2012-02-29 13:49

LET THE THRUTH BE SPOKEN couldnt agree more that gary takes to much chances if Duane wasnt there to cover gary's ass the game could have had an diffrent outcome

  • Schalk - 2012-02-29 13:40

Gary is 'n NUL en hy speel soos 'n BUL!

  • Saud - 2012-02-29 13:50

Gary 10,was not the greatest last weekend,he did not make the right decisions, and he had pleanty of game time already so there is no excuse. Why do we still persist on playing at 10

      Johan - 2012-02-29 14:11

agree with you 100% why is allistar persisting on playing gary?? its all very odd to me?

      Stormkaap - 2012-02-29 14:19

Too afraid to make tough calls and errs on the side of caution!

      PatPion - 2012-02-29 15:01

I guess AC is giving him the benefit of the doubt, and another run. Won't be playing much longer if this trend continues, though.

  • cchaupt - 2012-02-29 13:56

Gary was weak and never got the backline going, Burton did the exact opposite. Can someone please explain the logic in retaining Gary.

  • Lionel - 2012-02-29 14:08

Saffa Cat,AC probably lost your mail regarding Elstadt, boy is not even on the bench, something we should know???? Burton Francis was to me better than Gary van Aswegen!!!!!!

      Saffa - 2012-02-29 14:21

I believe he wasn't considered for the game because he only started taking contact this week, and they don't want to rush him in - which makes sense I suppose considering the stuff ups last season :) lol.

  • Sportmal - 2012-02-29 14:09

Van den Heever is unlucky, he didn't do too much wrong last week, I would have dropped Habana instead, I thought at one stage that he was in the change rooms drinking tea with Cory Jane. Furthermore I wouldn't write van Aswegen off this quickly, he has shown that he has a lot of raw talent, so let him settle in the 10 jersey. I think we should play grant at 12 with gary and burton sharing the 10 jersey throughout the season. Grant is not a strong enough kicker out of hand and when the stormers play a team that can keep them in their own half they're always in trouble, it's how the Reds beat them last year at Newlands. Besides, JDV looks lethargic on the field and very uninterested, I can't imagine having him as captain with that type of attitude on the field.

      Bootman - 2012-02-29 14:49

What's raw talent? Burton Francis showed actual talent. Let Gary go and nurture his raw talent in the Vodacom Cup. If AC doesnt open his eyes soon, it will be "would've, could've and should've" at the end of the S15 once more.

  • Shareef - 2012-02-29 14:09

Would have gone for Bekker as captain. De Villiers shouldn't be in the side.

  • Johan - 2012-02-29 14:10

Gary was shocking this weekend! I hve never seem him play well!!! makes you wonder what the hell Allistair is thinking????? something is going on here

      PatPion - 2012-02-29 15:03

That's a bit harsh. I've seen him play well on plenty of occasions. AC is giving him another run to prove himself. He won't be in the mix if he plays like last week much longer, though.

      Stormkaap - 2012-02-29 16:29

Pat.. he had enough warm up games. question one must ask is how long does one reward mediocrity.. As in WO case for the bokke, 33 games?

  • legndkilla - 2012-02-29 14:21

the two flyhalves that should be playing are bash and burton francis that gary chap's decision making is a biot suspect.... further more its a good team ....

  • Keith - 2012-02-29 14:23

  • Keith - 2012-02-29 15:03

Bootman I am a coloured Stormers supporter and I do not appreciate your assumption.Gary and Burton will be our pivots for 2012 don't you worry.

  • nyameko.nondzube - 2012-02-29 15:06

Gary van Aswagen was pathetic last week.. He seemed hesitant and unsure of himself. When Francis came on the stormers at least looked like they had direction.. Ohh well I suppose Coetzee and his assistants saw something different.

      Johan - 2012-02-29 15:19

he is was shocking...he should go an peel oranges for the team or be the water boy!

  • Saffa - 2012-02-29 15:54

Grant on the bench??? Seriously? Can he make an average club team?

      Jason - 2012-02-29 16:02

Well Saffa I think you know more about rugby than I do......................which i find mildly arousing...........but i digress, I've always thought Bash was underrated as a flyhalf! He has one major weakness that I can see and that's his positional kicking! But im not a fan of the kick and chase style of rugby and if the new points system being tested by the Varsity Cup comes into play......try scoring will be king and penalty goals will be a last just saying!

      Saffa - 2012-02-29 16:10

Hello Doctor...Should you not be working on your 'bedside manner' after all those patient complaints in recent times? Instead of faking my profile? Just a thought...use it, don't use it.@JasonEye - it is the tosspot ortho from Canada - may the rugby gods have mercy on his soul.....

      Saffa - 2012-02-29 16:13

And PS Doc: you forget I know who you are, where you practice and what your patients have said about you :) Have a good moring in Canada old foe.

      Jason - 2012-02-29 16:15

Thanks for the heads up guys............................I stand by my statement! as was directed at the "real Saffa" "would the real rugga Saffa please stand up! please stand up! please stand up! im gonna have that song in my head for the rest of the day.

      Saffa - 2012-02-29 16:41

@Jason I believe we gonna struggle for another while before we can fill our trophy cabinet. Very average front row, loosies nothing to write home about, weak backline. Old, slow, poor skills
