Goodes suspended for one week

Wellington - Hurricanes prop Reggie Goodes has been suspended one week for a dangerous charge during his side's win over the Chiefs, officials said on Monday.

Goodes will miss next Saturday's match against the Auckland Blues after pleading guilty over the incident involving Chiefs' lock Michael Allardice.

Goodes' arm slammed into Allardice's knee as he entered a breakdown in 36th minute of the Hurricanes' 22-18 win, resulting in a ligament rupture that will sideline the lock for the rest of the season.

South Africa, New Zealand, Australia Rugby (SANZAR) duty judicial officer Robert Stelzner accepted that Goodes' actions were not intentional and he meant to bind him arm onto Allardice's shoulder but his opponent moved at the last moment.

Stelzner said he halved the standard punishment to one week's suspension to take into account Goodes' good record, his guilty plea and his remorse at Allardice's injury.
