Cape Town - Gary van Aswegen will get another chance to possibly cement himself as Stormers flyhalf after it was confirmed that Elton Jantjies will remain sidelined for their next match against the Hurricanes.
Jantjies, who is struggling with a knee injury, will only be ready for their second Super Rugby tour game (against the Blues on May 3), the Stormers confirmed on Monday.
This will give Van Aswegen a chance to establish himself in the No 10 jersey. The 23-year-old had a good game in their 22-15 win over the Sharks on Saturday, with his tactical kicking in particular standing out.
With Peter Grant still injured and Jantjies displaying erratic form, the Hurricanes game could be the ideal opportunity for Van Aswegen to repay the selectors' faith shown in him.
Meanwhile, the Stormers also confirmed that lock Eben Etzebeth will be ready for the second game against the Blues.
Hooker Scarra Ntubeni (shoulder), flank Rynhardt Elstadt (shoulder) and wing Bryan Habana (knee) will all be ready to face the Hurricanes, while utility forward Don Armand (rib injury) and wing Gerhard van den Heever (knee) could possibly miss the tour.
The Stormers have a bye this weekend before heading off to Australasia.
Stormers' tour itinerary:
v Hurricanes (FMG Stadium, Palmerston North) - Friday, April 26
v Blues (North Harbour Stadium, Albany) - Friday, May 3
v Waratahs (Allianz Stadium, Sydney) - Saturday, May 11
v Rebels (AAMI Park, Melbourne) - Friday, May 17
