Etzebeth in doubt for Stormers

2012-07-02 10:10

Cape Town - Springbok lock Eben Etzebeth is unlikely to be risked in the Stormers’ next Super Rugby clash against the Cheetahs due to an ankle injury.

The Stormers play the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday. Kick-off is at 15:00.

Etzebeth missed last Saturday's match against the Lions. Stormers coach Allister Coetzee said Etzebeth was ‘touch-and-go', according to the Keo website.

Meanwhile, wing Danie Poolman injured his hamstring in the match against the Lions and will be sidelined for at least 10 days, but his layoff wil be offset by the return from flu of both Bryan Habana and Joe Pietersen.

Utility forward Rynhardt Elstadt will also return after his suspension while prop Steven Kitshoff is another who will be back after his stint with the Baby Boks in their Junior World Championship campaign.

The Stormers currently top the South African Conference standings by four points from the Bulls who play the Sharks in Durban on Friday.

about time the boy has a rest!!

      harold.lloyd.520 - 2012-07-02 10:32

But he hasn't really played that much. He's been on the field all the time, but that's pretty much it.

      Jason - 2012-07-02 10:55

Harold...your chirps show your maturity and knowledge about rugby...sit down before your hurt yourself. Rest up well Eben. Boks need you for the upcoming Rugby Championship...

      Jason - 2012-07-02 11:03

      @ Blue...sorry I was replying to Harold...are u guys an item...??

      harold.lloyd.520 - 2012-07-02 11:13

Jason, the reason the Bulls are so successful is because the supporters and players work together as a team, a family. You hopeless lot can maybe learn from it.

      Jason - 2012-07-02 11:16

Harold, our "hopeless" lot beat your pathetic lot twice this year. SO your comment has no standing, refer back to my previous comment about sitting down....

      nick.spangenberg.52 - 2012-07-02 11:18

ja 1 big inbred family...... haven't really won anything lately and after sat game world beaters again well done for FINALLY winning a game been a while.....

      frans.visserdsb - 2012-07-02 11:20

Sorry - Harold, Jap and Blue - your comments are about as valid as your fake profiles. Stop trolling using fake profiles, and we may start paying attention to your opinion. Until you have the courage to comment under your real name, your opinion is irrelevant...

      harold.lloyd.520 - 2012-07-02 11:25

Raven, how many times must I tell you? It's not about the cup for them, only about beating the Bulls.

      Jason - 2012-07-02 11:26

@ Frans...yip they are to chicken to post under their real names because they type rubbish and insult those that have a different opinion...sad story...

      isikhuluesimhlophe.esimhlophe - 2012-07-02 11:30

@mvw74, couldn't agree more. The amount of rugby being played these seasons must have an impact on the players bodies. They start prepping for the S15 in Dec the previous year, start the S15 in Feb, then break for Winter tours, back into S15 till July / August; then into Currie Cup, 4 nations (incl Argentina) and the year end tour to Europe? Irrespective of what province you support, stop being childish, childlike or immature and be grateful to all the players who promote good quality rugby in your country.

      Jason - 2012-07-02 11:32

@ Blue...don't know if they will...I'm not a fortune teller. But they stand a good chance. Alot is going to be decied this weekend. If the Crusaders beat the Chiefs(good chance this might happen) and the Stormers beat the Cheetahs(tough game) the Stormers go top. Bulls need to win every game but have a tough game against the Sharks this weekend...anything can happen. Its gonna be a cracking weekend of rugby...can't wait.

      harold.lloyd.520 - 2012-07-02 11:42

Frans, this is my real profile. I can't help it if you don't believe me. Jason, I'm 119 years old, so I spend most of my time sitting down.

      Jason - 2012-07-02 11:44

      @isikhulue...well said mate...

      jono.qmann - 2012-07-02 11:56

Harold and Raven sit together on a super rugby weekend watching the Stomers play every single minute wishing they would loose! But yet this coming weekend they will sit and watch the Stomers again hoping for a different result...definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result! Its time you guys get over the fact that the Stomers are better and you guys need to be jealous about that guy chatting to your boyfriends and not when the Stomers win. Oki doki??? And Harold if you looking for attention when you make childish comments like that then rather take Raven out for a drink at the Bronx or somewhere were you two can be quiet and enjoy each others jokes and laugh at each other make fun of the Stomers!

      harold.lloyd.520 - 2012-07-02 12:06

Ok Jono, will do. Raven I'll pick you up around 17h00, then we go for that drink.

      jono.qmann - 2012-07-02 12:57

      the incompetent's strikes again!

      harold.lloyd.520 - 2012-07-02 12:59

      I'll bring A LOT of tissues. It'll be a laugh a minute.

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-02 13:11

he reason trolling occurs is because when u do post on ur real profile, name calling starts from you lot. the statements i see that make a lot of sense from everyone that posts under real names just get flamed because u lot are so blinded by provincialism no one can tell u, no matter how much evidence, statistics, etc etc, that grant is not good enough. when someone shows stats of spies's running metres, valid statistics, superior to other players, then those ar ehis sideways metres. total brainlessness from the stormers. u think if harold or me or blue or charlie chaplin posted valid genuine rugby talk under real names, we wouldnt be called inbreeders just because we support the bulls. the insults are so mindless and malicious even though 100% of the time they miss their mark on me and the criticism of your province players seems to provoke immediate brainless name calling without anything actually worthwhile to contribute to the discussion. believe me, i have a real profile and it is impossible to have a civil conversation without you lot getting your panties in a bunch and start with the name calling and flaming. so...we be trollin'

      japjapjap.wat - 2012-07-02 13:25

Ek hoor etsebet is beseer toe hy di Bulle wedstryd kyk?? ek verstaan hy het op grand se skoot gesit toe hulle di' groot wedstryd volg?? jammer man, maar besering gebeur in rugby tyd, ne??

      frans.visserdsb - 2012-07-02 13:52

Tom, methinks the lady doth protests too much... Here's the thing. I have not called anybody names, been malicious or attacked anybody - despite being attacked and called a lot of names. I post under my real profile. The guys who post under false profiles feel they can get away with being malicious. And most of them are Bulls supporters. We are all entitled to our opinions - and I for one am a proud Stormer supporter, but am a Springok supporter first. So I will have an opinion when someone I consider not good enough is called up for the Springboks. So be a man and stop hiding behind your fake name. Or should we make up our own name for you too?

jono.qmann - 2012-07-02 13:53 probably will all have the same name! And when we show you Grants kicking stats you still say MS is beter so who is the slow one now?

  • steyts - 2012-07-02 10:20

Two very good SA derbies this weekend!!! Can't wait!!!

      harold.lloyd.520 - 2012-07-02 10:31

The one should be a close affair, whereas the other one should be a walk in the park for the Cheetahs.

      jed.vonallemann - 2012-07-02 10:42

Harold, I think the Shark's are gonna pound the Bull's. And nobody beats the Stormers, the only team to beat us was the Crusaders and we all know they had the Ref in there pocket, a bit like the Bull's actually.

      jack.oosthuysen - 2012-07-02 10:46

Vallemj. Dont you start with the refs, I think Mark Lawrence attended 2 church services yesterday and will be fasting for a week.

      jed.vonallemann - 2012-07-02 10:50

He was a disgrace, the lion's kept on slowing the Stormers Ball down, should have been a couple of yellow's at least.

      harold.lloyd.520 - 2012-07-02 10:57

Vallem, you lost against the Sharks as well, but I suppose in your own mind you won that one.

      jed.vonallemann - 2012-07-02 11:07

Harold we lost against the Reg.

      maakdiebulle.almalbokke - 2012-07-02 11:21

      @vallem,What is a reg?

      cavin.snyman - 2012-07-02 11:25

Vallem you were beaten by the Sharks that exposed your weaknesses that you did not have. All the best to Etsebeth though, he needs the rest and we want him fit as a fiddle when the Boks face the AB's and the Roo's.

      harold.lloyd.520 - 2012-07-02 11:27

Whoever. My point is that you are under the impression that you only lost one game.

      John - 2012-07-02 12:02

The Stormers were very poor this weekend & did fantastically well, given the circumstances, to win. They will be a lot better against the Cheetahs (when are they going to dump Naka?). Elstadt is highly underated and makes a huge difference to this side. Tiaan will start at 2 and hopefully Kitsie will be at his best. It was shameful to watch a Lions 2nd string front row destroy our boys like that. I can't see the Bulls winning in Durban especially without a goal kicker.

  • harold.lloyd.520 - 2012-07-02 10:24

    No loss.

      jed.vonallemann - 2012-07-02 10:44

blue, we could field our blind team and beat the Bull's.

      harold.lloyd.520 - 2012-07-02 10:59

Mabe your blind team can win a trophy, since your 20/20 vision team can't.

      jed.vonallemann - 2012-07-02 10:59

Once Burger and Duane are back we can call them a A-team.

      Jason - 2012-07-02 11:04

      Thats right...Stormers didn't lose this weekend...well spotted...

      jed.vonallemann - 2012-07-02 11:09

Harold we have 2 trophy's , how many are in your cabinet at the moment?

      harold.lloyd.520 - 2012-07-02 11:16

You have 3 if you count the be all and end all of cups: The Choice cup. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

      frans.visserdsb - 2012-07-02 11:21

yes Blue.. like Timotei is ours... I think our secret weapon works better, as we've beaten yout wice this year...

      John - 2012-07-02 12:04

I see two Bulls players attacked someone at Chimp Eden this weekend!

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-02 13:19

schalk and polisie perd vermeulen that takes it from the D team to the A team wow u do realise these guys are so light on rugby they will not perform even close to 100% i think u might be over estimating their impact on the game

  • tumisang.kolobe - 2012-07-02 10:46

If you doubted AC's coaching skilss then you should have seen last perfomance againts the lions, he took in an inexpierinced team againts the full might of the Lions and won.Brilliant

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-02 13:21

full might of the lions? please explain

  • Ashley - 2012-07-02 10:54

And the Stormers third team won the Bulls at Loftus

      harold.lloyd.520 - 2012-07-02 11:00

They 'beat' them, then they 'won' a Noddy badge.

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-02 13:22

blue, like u said, why would HM pick a team of third stringers???? the opinion of their own players is not very high.

      sean.brady.14224 - 2012-07-02 14:32

@Harold, it may be possible that this is not the first year textbooks weren't delivered to some schools! There are thousands of grammar books somewhere gathering dust! In the same pile as that famous book " A good flyhalf only needs to kick the ball 24 metres". ;D

      harold.lloyd.520 - 2012-07-02 14:44

Hilarious Sean. The funniest comment of the day.

  • Jason - 2012-07-02 10:57

He needs the rest....good call as the Boks need him for the upcoming Rugby Championship...Rest up well Ets...

      cape.maori - 2012-07-02 11:07

He will need more then a rest to face the mighty All Blacks. Think Sam Whitelock will teach him a couple of lessons - Etzebeth has the heart, not the full skills set yet for an international lock. Was showed up by a weak Pommie team. Only time will tell....

      Jason - 2012-07-02 11:19

Very true...only time will tell... he is 20. Long career ahead of him... Howz the weather in NZ today Cape...??

      cavin.snyman - 2012-07-02 11:22

Cape he is young fresh blood and he will not fail. He might not be that experienced in international games but he can hold his own and he will prove it again. Wait for the game to take place and dont count your chickens before they hatch. Your SBW has deserted your AB's, but even with him a win against the Boks are not gaurenteed.

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-02 13:24

what has SBW deserting the ABs have to do with the statement that etsebeth is not fully ready for international rugby? what a pathetic response.

  • LaBlue - 2012-07-02 11:39

Die Bulls wen een wedstryd vir 'n slag, en ewe skielik is hulle weer kampioene. Whatever.

      harold.lloyd.520 - 2012-07-02 11:48

We are not the champions. You've been the champs since February.

      paul.sdoow - 2012-07-02 12:05

this is a cut and paste moment and distribute Harold actually admitting that bulls ain't the champs?

      harold.lloyd.520 - 2012-07-02 12:11

Paul, I never said they were. Copy and paste that.

  • Jody - 2012-07-02 11:44

Would be blow for Stormers as Bekker is useless.Etzebeth is by far Stormers no 1 lock.

  • jeffrey.jones.357 - 2012-07-02 11:54

Gee, it's really great to see such insightful comments about rugby on this article. Really profound stuff guys. Get over your provincialism and discuss rugby.

      harold.lloyd.520 - 2012-07-02 12:03

      mvw74 - 2012-07-02 12:34

Well blueraven or should I say losserpink you've missed out on all the Stormers games and comments from News24. Concentrate on you own team boet.

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-02 13:29

i dont know what u r saying ashley. so enough has not been said the most unimaginative backline of all time, all around 1.8m tall and one of the least effective in the league nice mix of inexperience and hasbeens in the forwards plus a couple returns from injury this team will not lift this trophy this year or next or the next. i am not talking about the bulls winning this year please note. i am merely stating this team is not strong enough to lift that trophy. playoff rugby is not round robin rugby.

      steyts - 2012-07-03 10:39

Tom this team needs a strong scrumhalf and an other tighthead that can actually scrum then they will be able to make it....

  • reinhardt.hoffmann.1 - 2012-07-02 12:13

But .. Etzebeth is jou beste bet ...

  • orrinf8 - 2012-07-02 12:22

      bfvillet - 2012-07-02 16:07

Like the way allistair coetzee is resting his players and giving them time to get to full strength again .Should put the boys in good nick for the semi and the final.Would be good if the third place finishers in the SA conference could shut up now as we have a final to win suggest you start ending your posts with go Chiefs as that is the team we will be playing in the final.

  • Tommy - 2012-07-02 12:34

"supporters and players work together as a team, a family" That's true - like throwing bottles at the opposition.

      harold.lloyd.520 - 2012-07-02 13:02

That was my great grand son, get over it.

Sad to hear it runs in the family, shame.

      lean.sadie - 2012-07-02 14:48

Blue, no rugby knowledge, and can't read. Never finished school huh? Must be hard to understand what injuries are. Boks had tons of injuries too, and if all those were involved, they would have played a lot better too. If you can't see that, eh why even bother. You are one dimensional just like your friends. This lions team beat the sharks too btw. I Know it's hard to have half a brain.

  • Ashley - 2012-07-02 14:00

    Ever hear of Johan Ackerman

  • Ashley - 2012-07-02 14:56

Well he had his ass kicked by the stormers 4th team

  • rennievanas - 2012-07-02 15:18

Let him rest it out pleas AC. We are going to need him 100% ready for the semis and final.

  • aidan.w.naude - 2012-07-02 17:23

Lets all remind Harold who has a chirp about everything that the Stormers beat the Bulls on 4 weeks ago with our junior side. We also beat them in Cape Town and we also lead the conference once again. Its must be so hard knowing a loss this weekend could see them miss out on playoff places ....

  • robbieyvonne.hutchison - 2012-07-02 19:28

One of these days hopefully by the Semis/Finals stage our team will be back to Full Strength. Kitshoff, Etzebeth, Elstadt, Vermeulen, Schalkie, Peterson, Habana...

  • Jco - 2012-07-03 07:03

Even Stormers lead the SA Conference, there style of rugby sucks. The Cheatas scored more tries than these kicking winning team! They only win by penalties and kicking! They only scored 25 tries, but with their boaring rugby style they win matches! Seems it works for them!
