De Villiers to lead Stormers

2012-05-09 12:31

Cape Town - The return of Gio Aplon, Jean de Villiers and Eben Etzebeth from injury this week, has seen a number of changes to the Stormers' match 22 from the team that beat the Force in Perth a fortnight ago.

In the starting XV, Aplon starts in the 14 jersey with Gerhard van den Heever dropping to the bench and JP du Plessis dropping out of the match 22.

De Villiers slots in at 12, with Juan de Jongh moving to 13 and Bryan Habana back to the wing. Danie Poolman drops out of the match 22.

In the front row Steven Kitshoff retains his place with Deon Fourie coming in for Tiaan Liebenberg and Brok Harris in for Frans Malherbe, both of whom will play from the bench. Reserve hooker Scarra Ntubeni falls out of the match 22.

Etzebeth returns from injury at No 4 lock, with De Kock Steenkamp dropping down to the bench and Don Armand falling out of the 22.

In the only other change, London Irish and Canadian No 8/flank Jebb Sinclair, who joined the Stormers on Wednesday on loan, will provide loose forward cover from the bench.

im happy with that team, hopefully the chaps can get rid of the cobwebs sharpish!

      Lionel - 2012-05-09 12:49

I only worry about Deon Fourie's throwing in at the lineouts!

      Saffa - 2012-05-09 13:05

@Lionel and Jason - lol. Liebenberg's frikkin throwing in hasn't been much better......I'm not sure why the damn lineout throwing remains a problem season in, season out....drives me almost as batty as seeing the 'fatties' in the backline...

      CharlesDumbwin - 2012-05-09 13:06

I'm just glad you beat Isaac Balsak to the first post !!! Province groete, streep try groete, g@y groete !!!

      Lionel - 2012-05-09 13:09

Tallest lock in the competition and still lineouts go haywire:):) So looking forward to my beloved team playing at Newlands....Storm saam:):) Thanks Charles for your contribution....lol

      Saffa - 2012-05-09 13:26

@Lionel - correct - I'm sure I could find Andries in the lineout with my 1st throw......At last though - back on the home turf...

      Jason - 2012-05-09 13:36

Question has to be asked, if they are spending enough time working on their accuracy. As a specialist there are certain exercises you must do outside of normal training. Hookers should spend time throwing at the Poles upright, create marks on the post to represent different height for the different jumpers. Keep hitting those marks on command, and things will get better, but it takes extra motivation. Im not saying they dont do it, im just saying lol

      Nic - 2012-05-09 13:50

They've already done it once this season at the cheap wine reeking stands of phewlands, they can do it again. Vrystaaaaaaat!!!!!

      RealTokolos - 2012-05-09 13:54

It's not the throw ins in the lineout... the problem is the locks!!!!

      Lionel - 2012-05-09 13:58

Jason,I think they should also consider only throwing at 2 and 4,these long throws are dangerous if you are not accurate!! @Nic,you seem to know alot what happens at Newlands????

      Saffa - 2012-05-09 14:03

@Lionel - juo. Old NicNac sweeps the Railway stand after the games......He if fortunate though, in that he gets to play car guard in Perth Road before and during the game - double pay for a 12 hour day.

      Lionel - 2012-05-09 14:11

Probably pays for his airtime for the week!!!

      Stirrer - 2012-05-09 14:18

@Nic - you've got it wrong, dude. The Newlands stands do not reek of cheap wine, it's a brewery we've got next door.

      Stirrer - 2012-05-09 14:19

@Saffa - Tiaan is not known as "Lightning Liebenberg" for nothing, he never hits the same place twice.

      Japjapjap - 2012-05-09 15:31

Jean d Villiers- weepee supporters, asb sing saam- "...we're on a road to nowhere,...doo doo dam...we're on a road to nowhere...doo doo dam..." sing voort, moenie dat ek julle keer ni??

      RealTokolos - 2012-05-09 18:02

Vallemj... Who says Tokolos is a Dutchman? What makes you think that you moron? And no... SPIES is my Bok captain SOUTIE!!!

      Jco - 2012-05-10 11:48

  • RealTokolos - 2012-05-09 13:29

Cheetahs by 15+!!! 5 Tries definitely for Cheetahs.

      Saffa - 2012-05-09 13:51

5 Tries? That would be more than half the tries that have been scored against us in the ENTIRE tournament thus far....If they can manage that, it doesn't say very much for the Bulls and Crusaders who are according to you kenners, the finest attacking teams in the tournie..........

      RealTokolos - 2012-05-09 14:00

Saffa Brat... The wheels are coming off good in the WeeePeee and you cannot deny that. There is more controversy around the Stormers team this week as there have been the whole decade around the poor Lions. Underpaid employees are very unstable when you touch their wallets you know!!! YOU ARE GOING TO BLEEEEEED!!!

      Saffa - 2012-05-09 14:06

Oh all right Tokkie - if you say so, it must be so. But if we don't bleed? What will your excuse be? Please not the ref again.......

      Dirk - 2012-05-09 14:15

The Stormers don't have time to bleed!

      Saffa - 2012-05-09 14:57

@Tokkelos: ROTFLMAO - I don't think I can honour that old chap. I COULD try - really hard....BUT: the 1st time he flops over after making 2cm's or charges into a tackle puffing only to miss entirely, I would probably not be able to zip it. If I promise to TRY - does that count?

      Saffa - 2012-05-09 15:22

      Deal @Tokkie.

  • John - 2012-05-09 13:49

  • Melt - 2012-05-09 14:29

      Saffa - 2012-05-09 15:02

      Brilliant suggestion!

  • steve.vanrooyen - 2012-05-09 14:37

omg. After reading the headline i thought you were referring to P Div. Thank goodness that is not the case.

  • Acta - 2012-05-09 16:26

Backline looks good, going to be tough against the Eborsohn brothers. Up front is where the real battle will be, backing the the young inexperienced loosies to stand their ground against very tough opponents. Hopefully they at least contend for the ball in the rucks on saturday otherwise Brussow and co. will smother us. Good luck Boys!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jco - 2012-05-10 11:45

Jean de Villiers, gebore 24/02/1981! Hoe oud is hy, kan jul die som maak? Hy is 31 jaar! TE OUD MANNE! Fourie du Preez is 30 en almal noem hy is te oud! Kom ons stop die dubbel standaarde! Kyk na die somme, dan kies ek die jonger man!

  • Jacques - 2012-05-10 11:56
