Cheetahs won't rush Pretorius

Cape Town - The Cheetahs will give scrumhalf Sarel Pretorius as much time as possible to recover before he returns to action from a hamstring injury.

Pretorius missed their last two games against the Bulls and Sharks after he was injured in the 26-24 win over the Stormers on April 6.

He scored an important try against the Capetonians when he charged down opposite number Nic Groom's kick to run 50m and score. However, he injured himself which meant Tewis de Bruyn was Piet van Zyl's deputy in their last two games.

According to the Volksblad website, Pretorius will be given until Thursday to prove his fitness for their game against the Kings this Saturday.

However, backline coach Hawies Fourie said they won't rush their star super-sub back if he's not 100%.

"Maybe it's better not to push Sarel to play against the Kings. We have our first bye next week and that will give him another week to recover," said Fourie.

Meanwhile, prop Trevor Nyakane should also return from a hip injury. Nyakane was initially named on the bench for last week's game against the Sharks but was a late withdrawal. Caylib Oosthuizen replaced him.

The Cheetahs are having their best season to date, with six wins from nine matches leaving them sixth on the overall log.

Their clash against the Kings kicks off at 19:10 on Saturday night.
