Cheetahs want Sias back!

Cape Town - With Johan Goosen likely to leave, the Cheetahs are eager to lure flyhalf Sias Ebersohn back to Bloemfontein.

Ebersohn's rugby has markedly improved since he joined the Western Force in Perth, Australia.

He returned to Bloemfontein last weekend, helping the Force to a 23-16 win over the Cheetahs, and according to the Volksblad website, the Bloemfontein franchise is eager for him to return.

The Cheetahs are looking for a replacement for Goosen, who is likely to leave the union after this year's Currie Cup.

Sport24 earlier reported of huge interest in Goosen from France, while Western Province are reportedly also eager to sign the Springbok flyhalf.

According to Volksblad, the Cheetahs have official made their interest known to Ebersohn, who is yet to indicate if he'll return.

Ebersohn left the Cheetahs at the end of 2012 after falling behind Johan Goosen and Riaan Smit in the pecking order. He claimed he was not given the game time he was promised.

Smit is meanwhile reportedly also set to leave for France at the end of the month.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
