Cape Town - The Cheetahs have moved quickly to fill the void
at prop following the departure of Trevor Nyakane to the Bulls.
Nyakane has signed for the Bulls and his departure was following by Friday's
confirmation that hooker Adriaan Strauss will also be leaving the City of Roses,
bound for Pretoria.
In response to their front row dearth, the Cheetahs have snapped up promising
Leopards loosehead 'BG' Uys.
Uys, 26, came through the ranks of the Leopards, playing at Under-18 and Under-21
level from 2007 to 2009. He made his Currie Cup debut for the Leopards in 2010
against the Blue Bulls and played for the next three seasons for the Potchefstroom-based
side.
In 2013, Uys joined the Kings' training group prior to the 2013 Super Rugby
season, but was later released to the Leopards' 2013 Vodacom Cup squad.
He played for the Leopards for the remainder of 2013 before joining the Eastern
Province Kings in 2014.
Uys, educated at Paarl Gym, will join the Cheetahs on November 1 and is expected
to battle Caylib Oosthuizen for the starting loosehead berth in next year's
Super Rugby tournament.
