Cape Town - The Cheetahs have acquired the services of Boland Cavaliers pivot Elgar Watts to prevent a possible flyhalf crisis.
Johan Goosen will be out for four months after he injured his shoulder against the Highlanders two weeks ago, which leaves them with only Sias Ebersohn and Riaan Smit as potential flyhalf options.
According to Volksblad Watts was not offered a contract but is in Bloemfontein in case either Ebersohn or Smit get injured.
Watts played for Boland in this year's Vodacom Cup, during which they failed to reach the knockout phases after finishing fifth in the South Section.
Watts was one of their stars in last year's Currie Cup First Division when he scored 185 points, helping win the title.
