Cape Town - Cheetahs lock George Earle says he would pick Stormers duo Andries Bekker and Eben Etzebeth as his Springbok lock pairing.

Earle will pack down with lock partner Izak van der Westhuizen when the Cheetahs take on the Stormers in their Super Rugby clash at Newlands on Saturday.

"If you ask me to pick a current Bok team, I'll pick them (Bekker and Etzebeth) as my lock pairing. Eben has recently impressed as a young player and Andries is a giant in his own right," Earle told Volksblad.

Bekker, already capped 24 times by the Springboks, is expected to take over from the retired Victor Matfield while the 20-year-old Etzebeth has surfaced as a strong contender with his form this season.

But despite singing the praises of his opponents for Saturday's clash, Earle is ready for the challenge.

"I'm looking forward to playing against them. It will definitely be war on the field."

Earle, 25, joined Griquas from the Lions late last year and was drafted into the Cheetahs' wider training group in pre-season.

He has since impressed coach Naka Drotské which enabled him to cement his place in the team.

"My confidence is high and it's nice to know someone backs you.

"I'm thankful for how things turned out and glad about the faith the Cheetahs showed in me and giving me this opportunity," said Earle.

The clash at Newlands kicks off at 19:10 on Saturday.

Juandre Kruger is also mounting a challenge, he has really impressed me this season along with Etzebeth. However a lineout specialist such as Bekker is needed. Those three would be my bok choices. The Bok team to me must be the best team, they dont have to be 15 WP/Bulls/Sharks running around, but must be the best 15. And Johan I am a Bull, my country is just more important than my Club. The best deserve their spot. Spies NO.... Kolisi, CJ Stander and Marcel Coetzee have all outplayed him, and at their age, they are the future.

i agree. I am a Springbok supporter first, secondly a Stormers supporter. I love it when SA sides do well, and the Aussies (especially) battle - they have 3 sides in the bottom 5, we have 3 in the top 7. This is good for SA rugby. I hope the Bulls do well down under. I will support any SA side over any overseas side, no matter what it does to our conference - my side must beat the other SA sides to get to the top. I think Bekker and Etsebeth as a lock pair is the best in SA. I think Lambie is on current form the best flyhalf, Bjorn Basson is the best wing, Spies was a good player, but he is currently battling with form. Loosies are not our problem. I cannot wait for the rematch at Loftus on the 2nd June. I worry about the Bulls defensive pattern...and the Stormers lack of attacking flair.

  • Danny - 2012-05-08 06:13

Sorry Eben but it's going to be Andries Bekker and Juandre Kruger.

  • Jason - 2012-05-08 06:42

I completely agree. These two have been phenomenal.

      Tony - 2012-05-08 08:35

      Tony - 2012-05-08 12:01

@Floumasjien...miskien is jy reg...ek het ook in 'n stadium gedink dit is snaaks...nou is julle pienk outfit vir my baie snaakser!!! Sê my, het julle spelers se pienk panties valletjies ook?

      Stirrer - 2012-05-08 12:19

The problem with Tony and his mates is when they have nothing more to say they refere to the MIGHTY Bulls pink jerseys. 3 more games and they won't have that as an excuse anymore. By the way I hope the Bulls wear their pink kitt at Loftus when we play the Stormers again, and after we win the idiots will all have their feet in their mouths. GO THE PINK.

      Tony - 2012-05-08 17:35

@marko.myladynovic.52...whatever julle laat goed voel.

      marko.miladinovic.52 - 2012-05-08 20:31

The lock combination for the England tests will be interesting- Bekker and V.d. Merwe or Kruger and Eben.both Bekker and Kruger will be the loose running locks with Flip and Eben will be the enforcers.Sykes of the Sharks will also add value.
