Cape Town - Stormers coach Allister Coetzee says flank Schalk Burger has a 50-50 chance of being fit for their Super Rugby clash against the Sharks at Kings Park on Saturday.
Burger left the field at half-time in the Stormers' 33-0 home win against the Cheetahs last weekend after suffering neck spasms.
He did, however, join up with the Springbok training camp in Durban this week but is not certain to play against the Sharks.
Regular skipper Jean de Villiers is ruled out for eight weeks with a knee injury, so if Burger is unavailable then Duane Vermeulen will be the captain.
"The chances of Schalk playing against the Sharks are 50-50," Coetzee told SAPA.
"The affected area (in his neck) has settled nicely he is feeling much better.
"At this stage we are preparing as if he won't be playing but we'll get a chance to see him when he returns from Durban and then make a call on Wednesday."
Kick-off for Saturday's clash at Kings Park is scheduled for 19:10.
