Bulls wary of kicking assault

2012-03-06 22:15

Cape Town - Bulls forwards coach and technical analyser Johann van Graan says they are wary of the "excellent" tactical kicking the Blues can dish up when they meet at Loftus Versfeld this weekend.

The men from Pretoria are themselves renowned for playing a sound aerial game, and the Beeld newspaper reports that the Bulls can expect to receive some of their own medicine on Saturday.

The New Zealanders have kicked more that the Bulls in the first two weeks of Super Rugby and Van Graan says they have taken note.

"Their tactical kicking is excellent and everything doesn't just go straight up. They're also keen to kick along the ground via their outside backs to try and isolate their opponents and put them under pressure. Their kicking patterns are very much like that of the All Blacks.

"Besides, they're also a team that can run you ragged and with Ma'a Nonu and Rene Ranger present we'll have to be on our guard defensively.

"They can destroy you if you're not at you best," said Van Graan.

The Blues lost their first two games against the Crusaders and the Chiefs, while the Bulls defeated the Sharks and the Cheetahs.

But Van Graan is adamant that the Bulls need to improve on their previous two wins if they are to topple the Kiwis.

"We'll definitely have to lift our game if we want to beat them," he said.

Kick-off is at 19:10 on Saturday.

I`m not a bulls fan, but the bulls are made up out of the rest of the country, so you have my back this game, not because of your supporters !!!!

      Sean - 2012-03-07 10:29

@Isak. Sad mate. Even us Lions fans supported you when you played the Hurricanes!

  • Saffa - 2012-03-06 22:24

Oh, don't be modest. We all know and agree that it will be another walk in the park for the Mighty Bulls

  • Saffa - 2012-03-06 22:26

@Bootman Go away? HA Since 1948 we've never gone away. I know about others who has been away for more than a decade now

  • Riaan - 2012-03-07 07:37

Saffa and Bulldozer are proof you dont need a IQ of over 23 to post a comment on News24

      Henri - 2012-03-07 07:46

also proof that you cannot live without sea air without cutting off oxygen levels to the brain !!!!

      Jacques - 2012-03-07 10:04

@Craptalker: AN IQ not A IQ... But then again maybe if you had AN IQ above 23 you might have stayed in school long enough to learn that... GO BULLS!!

      Riaan - 2012-03-07 10:53

Well done. You have me there. I "liked" your response.

  • Papa-storm - 2012-03-07 07:46

Ha-Ha

      Paul - 2012-03-07 08:27

All you Stormer supporters have very big mouths for fans of a team that has achieved nothing over the last 12 years ... no cups ...not even one !!! to make it worse even when you guys ended top of the log last year what did your team do ...THEY CHOKE ... they lets us all down ...what a useless bunch they are ... I say drop the Stormers out of Super Rugby for the Kings !!!!

      Riaan - 2012-03-07 09:12

@Paul. You forgot the obligatory : "Nou die Blou".

      Paul - 2012-03-07 10:02

@Crapdetector No I'm a Lions fan ... and yes even the Lions have won a Cup recently !!! You Stormers fans can't even support the Bulls when they play against NZ & Aussie teams ...bitterness makes you nasty ...I support ALL SA teams ALWAYS ... but when it comes down to local teams against one another I support all the others against the Stormers !!

      Jason - 2012-03-07 10:53

@Paul, unfortunately that shows you just how much you understand about conference rugby. As a Stormers fan I want the Stormers to finish top of the SA conference in order to at least give us a shot at all the marbles. This means that I do not want the Bulls to beat the Blues! Which goes against everything i believe as a SA rugby fan, although the Bulls supporters make it a little easier. But until 2015 we are stuck with it, and I hope that after 205 we will go back to round robin tournys!

      Riaan - 2012-03-07 10:58

@ Paul. I do actually support all South African teams when they play abroad. Secondly the banter has been Bulls vs. Stormers and not Stormers vs. the world so relax. No need to get all emotional.

      Papa-storm - 2012-03-07 11:37

Crapdetector you asking a lot of these girls by asking them not to get emotional but then again the are blue bull supporters

      Paul - 2012-03-07 12:16

@JasonEye ...why would you want the Stormers to top SA conference ...WHY? ... they've got no BMT ..they'll CHOKE AGAIN!!! rather support a team that knows how to win cups ..the Stormers don't !! BACK THE BULLS they know how to get the job done!!! @Crapdetector ... Who's getting emotional ? not me ... but I bet you have cried a tear or two over bunch of no hopers !! @Papa-storm ...Girls ??? I'll tell you one thing ...evem my LIONS made your WP look like GIRLS in the CC semi-final ...Boks and all nogal...LOL !!!

      Riaan - 2012-03-07 12:56

@ Paul : I find it very amusing that last year the Lions ended the Super 15 in 2nd LAST position where all the teams had their full squads but now winning the Currie Cup where the Lions played everybody else's B teams through the season is a big deal. If the other teams had their Springboks through the full Currie Cup season the Lions probably wouldn't have made the semi's but you want the Stormers dropped for the Kings? Good luck with the Super 15 this year buddy.

      Paul - 2012-03-07 13:10

@Crapdetector ... what can I say ...I'm a Lions fan through thick and thin .... Lions were the first SA team to win a Super Cup ...S10 ... and then the Lions players went on to win 1995 WC for SA ...the Bulls then won 2007 S14 and then went on to win 2007 WC ... now what have your Stormers done for SA rugby ????

      Riaan - 2012-03-07 13:25

@ Paul : WOW!!! I did not realise the Bulls played in the world cup? Thats fantastic!... but erroneous. This is how it works... the Springbok team is made up of players from all the unions...except the Lions of course. Seriously. Stop it. Your arguments are ridiculous.

      Paul - 2012-03-07 13:49

@Crapdetector You and your tean are ridiculous ...1995 WC Final team had 14 Lions players in it of the match day 22.... and 2007WC team had ..ok Bulls only 7 players but they were Bakkies, Victor, Fourie, Danie and Bryan in starting line up ...ENOUGH SAID , Sharks 7 , Lions 2, Freestate 3 , Frans Steyn - Racing Metro ..oh yeah and WP 2 players ...ok they were good ones Schalk and Percy ...but hey WP must start caryying their weight for the Boks !!!

  • Paul - 2012-03-07 14:48

I am a Stormers fan and I will definitely be shouting for the Bulls at the weekend!! Whatever my team has done in the past or will do this year is my worry, not yours if you are not a Stormers fan. And, people, before we continue this childish pissing contest, consider this: what happens if your team (e.g. Stormers) needs the team you are now belittling (e.g. Bulls) to beat an Aussie team (e.g. Reds) to secure a home semi for your own team? Are you so two-faced that at that point you will drop all your negativity and start shouting for the Bulls? Or are you such an idiot that you will still shout for the Reds, purely because they are playing the Bulls? Grow up people! If your team cannot win the conference on its own, then they don't deserve to win the conference. Go Bulls!!
