Bulls extend Flip's contract

Pretoria - Springbok lock Flip van der Merwe has committed his future to the Blue Bulls Company after renewing his contract with them until the end of the 2014 season.

The burly lock, who has played 71 times for the Bulls in Super Rugby, successfully stepped into the void left by Bakkies Botha.

"It was an easy decision for me to make," Van der Merwe said.

"I originally came to Pretoria to learn from Springbok legends like Victor Matfield and Bakkies Botha and I have learnt a lot from them.

"I love my rugby here and feel I have a lot more to contribute to the Bulls and their fans in the future."

Coach Frans Ludeke was delighted at Van der Merwe's decision to stay in the Bulls family.

"Flip has been one of the most committed, hard-working players at the Bulls and he is the rock in our pack of forwards that always gives 100 percent," Ludeke said.

"We are ecstatic to have him here to continue to contribute to the Bulls success."

"It was an easy decision for me to make," Van der Merwe said. "I originally came to Pretoria to learn from Springbok legends like Victor Matfield and Bakkies Botha and I have learnt a lot from them" Where else would Big Flip want to live and play his rugby? What more can I say? All Tokolos can say is that PRETORIA is the only city in the country where there is prosperity and where proper rugby gets played. Also the only city in the country who can boast 3 Super Trophies (soon to be 4). That says a lot!!! Tokolos will run for Mayor of PRETORIA next year! (I know... it's great news hey). PS: Haters.... it is PRETORIA... not Tshwane ok!!! Greetings from the Kingdom of the MAGNIFICENT BULL!!!

The penalty machine stays on at the pink parade. Good for him. He's an over-rated thug

      Harold - 2012-06-01 18:57

      Like the du Plessis brothers.

      Albert - 2012-06-01 19:01

For sure! Dirty player is not the word

      beachee1 - 2012-06-01 19:05

Yeah. Those du Plessis brothers are also walking penalties. I don't mind guys playing hard, but being a thug and being stupid is another matter. I sometimes wonder how Jannie can be a doctor and still be so monumentally thick at times.

      Harold - 2012-06-01 19:42

And Deon Fourie and Rynard Elstadt.

      TravieGrif - 2012-06-01 20:01

@daspoort...I make the comment about Jannie because he often gives away really dumb penalties. I am a Sharks fan, and back both him and Bissie as first choice for the boks, but Jannie can drive me nuts with the stupid penalties he gives away.

      Sean - 2012-06-02 14:13

In the top 20 for conceding penalties there are 8 South African players. So how can Flip be a penalty machine? Folklore again?

@isak.visser Lank laas van jou gehoor, het al gewonder wat van jou geword het. Jammer om dit te se, maar ek sien swaarigheid vir jou Stormers span more. Hulle het nie n kaans nie....!!!!

      Tokolos - 2012-06-02 02:05
