Bulls change one for Chiefs

2014-03-26 12:12

Pretoria - Bulls coach Frans Ludeke made one change to his team to face defending Super Rugby champions, the Chiefs, at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

Right wing Akona Ndungane, who missed last week's win over the Sharks because of compassionate leave, is back in the team in place of Sampie Mastriet and will play in his 101st match of Super Rugby for the franchise.

Mastriet drops out of the match 23 altogether.

Victor Matfield, who took over the captaincy of the team following the late withdrawal of Flip van der Merwe last weekend, will again lead the team into battle.

"We managed to pick up some good momentum over the last couple of weeks and with no new injuries, we can look at maintaining that," said Ludeke.

"Akona has played in all our matches this season and only missed last weekend because of his father's passing, so we are keen to have him back. He brings a lot of experience and composure."

Matfield admitted that the Chiefs will be a stern test.

"They are not the champions for nothing. They are well-balanced with a lot of strike power at the back, but also have a solid and strong first phase in their play. We will have to be very accurate and use our chances if we want to be victorious," said Matfield.

Saturday's game kicks off at 15:00.

Teams:

Bulls:

15 Jurgen Visser, 14 Akona Ndungane, 13 JJ Engelbrecht, 12 Jan Serfontein, 11 Bjorn Basson, 10 Jacques-Louis Potgieter, 9 Francois Hougaard, 8 Dewald Potgieter, 7 Jacques du Plessis, 6 Deon Stegmann, 5 Victor Matfield (captain), 4 Paul Willemse, 3 Werner Kruger, 2 Callie Visagie, 1 Dean Greyling

Wat 'n magtige span, my hart klop met trots!

      Ali Gee - 2014-03-26 12:30

      Chiefs by infinity!

      Omgeklits DeMaaifudí - 2014-03-26 12:48

Def infinity: "a number greater than any assignable quantity or countable number" Very accurate prediction from Ali Gee once again - Chiefs to approach zero.

      Ali Gee - 2014-03-26 12:55

      Sorry I dnt speak Afrikaans?!?!?

      Fourie du Preez - 2014-03-26 13:01

@Dom Ali As jy dan nie afrikaans kan praat nie, waarvoor antwoord jy op die kommintaar wat ek lewer? Onnosele sot!

      Ali Gee - 2014-03-26 13:07

I choose not to speak the dying language of the oppressor. Please address me in English in the future thanks

      Omgeklits DeMaaifudí - 2014-03-26 13:23

      Ali smaak die colonial oppressors.

      Omgeklits DeMaaifudí - 2014-03-26 13:33

I can see the headlines already - "Dave Rennie and Wayne Smith says its easy to prepare for a game against the Bulls - you know exactly what you are going to get - the Bulls have been doing the same thing for the last 20 years."

      rob.ewing.374 - 2014-03-26 14:25

      Fake Fourie. Leer spel aap!!

      Fourie du Preez - 2014-03-26 15:13

@Knob Die enigste aap hier is jy. Jou orangoetang pa het jou groot, dik gorilla ma soos 'n besetene bespring. Jy was die nagevolg gewees...

      Dawie Marx - 2014-03-29 18:42

Fourie ek stem saam met jou, maar ek voel dat ons afrigter die beginspan langer op die veld moet hou. Die probleem is dat die beginspan 'n goeie punte verskil daarstel, maar sodra die bank opkom word dit vining uitgewis.

  • Jacques Robinson - 2014-03-26 12:16

Team looks good. Welcome back Akona

      Jacques Robinson - 2014-03-26 12:27

I read and comment rugby. I ignore the rubbish

  • Gerhard Steenkamp - 2014-03-26 12:27

Not a bad looking squad i'd drop Ross from the bench then it will be a even better team

      Martin Smith - 2014-03-26 14:41

Yes can't understand Ross' inclusion. "Vleis" Engelbrecht is in the squad and not getting picked, sad story.

  • dewaldmarais - 2014-03-26 12:30

I hope we worked on our scrums the Chiefs WILL target it as a weakness. Glad I don't see Sampie's name he's not a SR quality player.

      Kevin Marsh - 2014-03-26 12:45

The chiefs will target Matfield to tire him out . Old oupa.

      Omgeklits DeMaaifudí - 2014-03-26 12:52

Okona one zillion time more trustworthy than Sampie on the wing.

  • Lee James Retief - 2014-03-26 12:43

And yet for another year, the bulls are supposedly rebuilding, you wouldn't say so when you look at this team. they are littered with springboks! this coming from a sharks supporter but in the situation of super rugby, (not the currie cup) we all have to back our country men to make SA proud!!

      Luke Hill - 2014-03-26 12:55

They really are a good team, yet again they have proven all the critics wrong by bouncing back from two loses and are playing some great rugby at the moment. I hope they keep the running rugby going like they did with the sharks, they can't afford to let the chiefs backs run with the ball.

      Bardof Blairgowrie - 2014-03-26 19:05

Bulls are just better at EVERYTHING, Martin. The other franchises do not have the structures required to win Super Trophies. Take a look at the Lagoon Crabs, for example. They lose their flyhalf and now are all at sea.

  • Michelle le Roux - 2014-03-26 12:53

The Chiefs will bounce back adn win by 10 or more. In other news, I hear that Matfield's son is also captaining the u/19 Bulls side this weekend

      Omgeklits DeMaaifudí - 2014-03-26 12:57

Expected nothing less - Pretoria is a monarchy.

      Willa Prinsloo - 2014-03-26 13:25

Geklits - if it carries the blessing of Koning Naas, who are we to doubt it ?

      Omgeklits DeMaaifudí - 2014-03-26 13:26

Yes we are a monarchy - ruled by King Matfield. Its a mere matter of succession - the when and where not relevant.

      Michelle le Roux - 2014-03-26 14:42

Sum ching wong watse goed?? Thats it hide behind hyour fake identity. Atleast I am real and not scared to share my views openly, bloody coward... Your comments also never make any sense. Now go back to the tv room your mommy made lunch and you know your only allowed to play on the computer for one hour a day

      Tyrone Woods - 2014-03-26 15:38

Bwahahahahaha! Michelle just bagged herself the sharks joke of the day award. Classic knockout punch by Michelle

      Michelle le Roux - 2014-03-26 15:50

Sorry Luke, you have the wong girl. And if it didnt rain the Lions would easily haev thrashed the bulls.

  • Luke Hill - 2014-03-26 12:54

This will be a awesome game of rugby, the bulls are still top dog at home but the chiefs are not a team to be underestimated. I which the bulls luck and really give the chiefs a run for their money.

      Omgeklits DeMaaifudí - 2014-03-26 13:27

Ludeke tends to attack more against the NZ and Aus teams.

      Luke Hill - 2014-03-26 13:29

They probably will have to but the chiefs do have a good defence, it is going to be a big task for them.

  • Genio Deporte - 2014-03-26 14:11

Bulls are lucky to be able to pick such a similar side for a few weeks in a row now, builds continuity and helps the players to get to know one another. They have a very tough game ahead of them as the Chiefs play very dangerous running rugby but I believe the Bulls will have the upper hand in the lineouts. Good luck Bulls I hope you guys keep this winning streak of yours alive.

  • rob.ewing.374 - 2014-03-26 14:24

Chiefs by 20. Change all of them to stand a chance.

      jason.hepple.5 - 2014-03-26 15:36

Ah... Well done Hollow.... That was classic!! Pffft!

      Bardof Blairgowrie - 2014-03-26 19:12

Change them, Rot Spewing? You mean you want to change your player's diapers?

  • Tyrone Woods - 2014-03-26 15:31

Chiefs will edge this one no problem. Let's go Chiefs!

      Diano Phokaners - 2014-03-29 08:29

The chiefs will dropout today..blue bulls just do it

  • Dolphin Dunes Guesthouse - 2014-03-26 16:18

''I choose not to speak the dying language of the oppressor. Please address me in English in the future thanks'' Dan moet jy maar vingertaal praat jou klein piskat. Engels was die taal van die wereld se grootste oppressors nog..........................

      Bardof Blairgowrie - 2014-03-26 19:15

Daai ou is beskerm deur sy komper skerm. As ek hom in die werklike lewe kry sal hy baie gou uitvind wat "oppressor" eintlik beteken.

  • Vernon Annandale - 2014-03-26 16:47
