Ebersohn the 'in-form 10'

Cape Town - On current form, Sias Ebersohn is currently the best South African flyhalf in the Super Rugby competition, believes former Springbok pivot Braam van Straaten.

Ebersohn, 25, currently plays for Australian franchise, the Western Force, who have surprised friend and foe this season, winning their last five games in a row to sit fourth on the overall Super Rugby log.

The former Cheetah has been one of the Force's stars this season. He joined them at the end of the 2012 season.

"He is playing unbelievable rugby at the moment and is a big part of the Force's success. Not only does he kick well, but his distribution is also superb," Van Straaten told the Volksblad website.

Van Straaten has also been impressed by the Lions' Marnitz Boshoff, but feels he may lack the experience to be considered for Test honours.

"Sias has reached maturity. He realised he needed the correct information regarding his kicking if he was to get his career back on track.

"I chat to him about four times per week via Skype and we evaluate his kicking. He is actually a very humble player and I'm glad he entrusted me to help him with his kicking.

"He is definitely mature enough. I think someone like Marnitz is playing decent rugby, but he's not experienced enough. We saw against the Crusaders how he can be neutralised.

"The Lions' (Australasian) tour will be a watershed moment to see if he can maintain his current form."

With Pat Lambie injured, Johan Goosen struggling with fitness and consistency and Morné Steyn not performing too well at his French club, Stade Français, Bok coach Heyneke Meyer may take note of Ebersohn's performances...
