Berry to ref Stormers v Lions

Cape Town - Stuart Berry will be the referee in the South African Super Rugby derby between the Stormers and Lions at Newlands on Saturday (17:05 kick-off).

Berry will be assisted by Marius van der Westhuizen and Quinton Immelman, with Shaun Veldsman on Television Match Official (TMO) duty.

The appointment will have raised eyebrows among Stormers fans, as Berry was earlier this season heavily criticised for 'favouring' the Lions in their wins over the Blues and Reds.

The only other South African referee in action in Round 10 is Jaco Peyper, who will take charge of the Sharks v Cheetahs match in Durban on Saturday (15:00). Craig Joubert and Marius Jonker will be his assistants, with Deon van Blommestein on TMO duty.

Friday's matches will be handled by Nic Bryant (Hurricanes v Blues, 09:35) and Andrew Lees (Rebels v Force, 11:40).

Saturday's other matches will be officiated by Garratt Williamson (Chiefs v Crusaders, 09:35) and Rohan Hoffmann (Waratahs v Bulls, 11:40).

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
