Basson extends Bulls contract

Pretoria - The Bulls announced on Friday that wing Bjorn Basson has extended his contract with the franchise until October 2014.

The 25-year-old international joined the Pretoria outfit last season and has appeared for both the Bulls in Super Rugby and the Blue Bulls in the Currie Cup.

Basson has scored five tries for the Pretoria-based side this season.

"There are no limits to what this team can achieve and I want to be part of that drive towards excellence," Basson said.

"We have great structures, coaches and players at the Bulls and I am grateful to be part of such a team environment.

"On a personal level I have set out definite goals in my career and I believe that the Bulls will be the best vehicle to help me achieve that."

Bulls coach Frans Ludeke was pleased that Basson had extended his contract.

"Bjorn is most sought after because of his brilliant try scoring feats and uncanny ability in the air," Ludeke said.

"It is great to have him staying on as part of our vision to have a squad with world class players.

"With him staying, it means that we are one step closer to that goal."

See, everybody wants to stay there.

Understandable..the grass grows green notes at Loftus..good retention, enjoy Bulls..good potential Bok-bench warmer.

Lance - 2012-04-20 21:10 I've seen it all. I say a fact about the Bulls having heaps of cash to buy the best and retain quality players..then offer a compliment by saying well done at keeping Basson..then say he is worthy of being a Bok reserve (another compliment)..and I get shot I think its pretty arrogant for some of you to feel insulted by me saying Basson is worthy of a spot in the Bok squad....but hey, I guess when a Stormer speaks..certain Bulls hits \dislike\ then reads afterwards..not all Bull supporters are d@@ses so I will still support the Bulls tomorrow.

      Terence - 2012-04-20 21:21

Isak, Basson is second on the try scoring list. Jy's ook maar lekker stupid. Lance, who would you pick ahead of Basson?

      Lance - 2012-04-21 12:39

@ Terence..Basson would be fine as Bok reserve wing provided he is ok at 11 or 14, but Habana, Jp Pietersen and Aplon are still currently a notch above him on the quality scale, all beating him to the starting line-up by a hair.. only in defence department. He has the potential to be starting Bok... I now understand that many Bulls supporters have already decided and made the assumption that because the Bokke coaching staff are all Bulle, that Basson will automatically be jumping the que to a starting position in the Boks, surpassing the regular Bok wings from other provinces. Regarding your comment Terence..Die enige mense hier wat "lekker stupid" is die wat nie eers n kompliment kan sien nie as een hulle in die oe staar nie. Lees my kommentaar lekker staaadig..en dan dink (as dit moontlik is). 1) I said well done on retaining a quality player 2) I said money keeps good players at Loftus(the second factor is obviously good team spirit). 3)I said Basson is worthy of being a second choice wing for the boks(not an insult at all) And yes, I will be watching and supporting the Bulls today depsite many Bulls here wishing the Reds had beaten the Stormers and finding fault with the Stormers play yesterday despite being without three of their top Boks. Wait until Schalk,Bekker and Jean are fit in a few weeks. Wait for the impact of that bench. As a South african I say Good luck Bulls and Sharks !

Now we need to move him to 15, drop Niknaks to the bench and have our wings consist of Ndungane, Mastriet & Sadie (till he finds his feet)

  • KLSmith51 - 2012-04-21 06:15

I agree Basson will be best Bok 15, more space for his vision.
