Coetzee happy with Bok snub

2012-06-03 17:43

Johannesbburg - Stormers coach Allister Coetzee had plenty to be pleased about after his side’s 19-14 victory over the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday in the last Super Rugby match before the June recess.

Coetzee’s side cemented their place at the top of the SA conference and will go into the break in a commanding position.

While Capetonians are enraged that only three players from the Stormers side were selected for Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer’s squad of 32 for the upcoming Test series against England, this played into Coetzee’s hands.

The majority of his team will now be able to recuperate over the next three weeks, while many Bulls and Sharks players will be involved in the bruising Test series.

“We haven’t achieved yet as a team but we are in a good position," Coetzee said.

"With the three-week break and having most of our team it will help for better planning come the next couple of games.”

Stormers captain Jean de Villiers was visibly relieved after the brutal affair and said they were well aware that the match could have swung either way.

“Games like today can go either way," De Villiers said.

"If the ball stuck to JJ Engelbrecht in the first half for a try it could have been different, and if they kicked for poles it would have different, so it is those small margins that make the difference.

"I suppose we are just lucky to take the win tonight."

Coetzee lauded his team for the character they showed to get the result against a quality Bulls side at their Loftus fortress.

“I think it is a great result for us," he said.

"It is always a big challenge to beat the Bulls at Loftus. It's one thing you can never underestimate, so it is a special effort by the team."

He believed their greatest achievement this year was that his charges now knew how to win irrespective of scoring tries and clinching bonus points.

“That is what we want to do and what we do well," he said.

"We’ve done that. We defended well and at times we kicked well.

“When we had the opportunity we took it and I think that is important in any competiion, so I am really pleased.”

While the Bulls were disappointed, coach Fans Ludeke believed they were still in the running to win the competition.

“There is still a lot of rugby to be played," Ludeke said.

"We’ve got three vital games left and we are going to work hard to make sure we still have the opportunity to win the competition."

Thank goodness die "blou bokke" arent plating at newlands. I dont think anybody would come to support them

      Tokolos - 2012-06-03 17:44

It's time that guys like you get a life man. If there were 22 Stormers in the Green and Gold I would support them. I am also not happy with some of the selections that were made and I reckon that there were a few players overlooked (for now). Like I told Jan.... I personally think that not even 60% of these guys will go on to play in tests after the England tests. I think Heyneke works with a plan. No coach wants to fail and at this stage he hasn't had time to work physically with any other players from other franchises that he don't know so well. He has worked with the majority in this group however and if he is comfortable with the selection for now... give him a change to do his thing. If you start a job at a new company would you prefer to be surrounded with people you know and worked with, or the total unfamiliar if it is your head on the blog?... I don't think so.

      Jacques - 2012-06-03 19:14

Which selections are you unhappy about Tokolos?

      Tokolos - 2012-06-03 19:37

Jacques.... I personally would have picked: Kolisi first and then the other loosies (the shoulder niggle might be the only thing in his way at this stage). The man's talent is out of this world. Aplon / Joe in place of Kirshner (on current form) Spies is nowhere at this stage - Josh Strauss unlucky. (Sharks loosies is ok and won't let down any Bok team). Whitehead / De Jongh in place of Wynand Grant in place of Jantjies (on current form) This is not at all a weak team he picked. I jut think he could have made a few different selections on current form but like the man himself said.... He wants to surround himself with experience and guys he is comfortable with at this stage as time is not on his side. The team will change a lot when the English tests are done with. We will be able to field one of the best Bok teams in a long time come the next round of test matches.

Julle Support dan nie eers die Groen Bokke nie. Dit is mos die plek waar die SA supporters mos vir die AllBlacks support, ne?

      Pieter - 2012-06-05 23:34

Tokolos, I just wonder how HM is going to get familiar with the rest of the good players in the country if he does not pick them? Besides, he had nothing better to do for the past few months than to attend the games played by these 'unknowns' and to get familiar with them! That is his job, so not being familiar is a sad state of affairs. If your argument holds water, then he will NEVER be able to pick other players. Besides, if you and I can see the worth of Kolisi and the others you have mentioned, why cannot HM? And being familiar with the likes of Wynand Olivier, why pick them?

  • René - 2012-06-03 17:21

AC you might be happy, but your supporters don't share your 'happiness' - probably with reason. I would have felt the same if it was done to my team. HM has chosen his team and must now deliver!! As for FL, take a bit advice from a female supporter: As this is our so-called rebuilding year, please use guys like Venter, JJ & Sadie - WO is really stuck (sorry Wynand), start with Arno, Potties and CJ - Pierre must now go and warm the bench for a wee-while. Some of the seniors (our Captain and VC) are waaaayyyy too complacent - time to move on guys! C'mon just DO it

Fearless trio.

      Stormkaap - 2012-06-03 18:12

Rene I cant believe you are saying that Spies(spear) must warm the bench. Yesterday again he was showed up by far less experienced players.. Now as far as AC's comment one sucks.. National selection is not about you and your planning. It is about every single player wanting to represent their national team. take off you blinkered specs and see the bigger picture..

      René - 2012-06-03 18:34

@Stormkaap, It's only the 2nd time this season, but yes it happens. Our Captain and VC are now officially our worst players - What's up with that?? Bench the 2 and make Chili & Dewie Captain & VC --- 'sigh' 'sigh more' - one can dream!!

      Stormkaap - 2012-06-03 18:45

Rene I dont agree, or let me understand you properley.. You are for the 2nd time Spear isnt the best I take it.. He has never played well after 2008.. nothing other that reputation has held him in the bulls and SA side IMO

      René - 2012-06-03 18:53

@storm, hahaha, no it's only the 2nd time that I criticise the man! I'm a patient person and I think he had enough chances!

      Schalk - 2012-06-04 07:37

rene waar was jy met jou geluk wense?

      Stormkaap - 2012-06-04 10:49

Rene what about WO who has had 33/34 chances @ bok level and failed....miserably. What about the fact that JJ makes the bok squad with woeful defending ahead of Aplon. How can u vindicate the selection of Basson ahead of Aplon, when aplon is a far better defender and more lethal with ball in hand. How can one vindicacte Engelbrecht ahead of a more devastating attacker like De Jongh and a far better defender even though he gives away 10kg or so. Explain how Kirchner gets ahead of Aplon or Joe Pietersen. The stormers scrum was far better than the Bulls @ scrumtime. I feel sorry that Cilliers didnt get selected. Have no problems with Franco. However my biggets gripe is that Kolisi doenst even get a shoe in ahead of Kanko/Daniel who are very similar players and how HM can say that Kanko is back up to wait for it...Spies!!!

  • deon.tyler - 2012-06-03 17:54

Why wasnt Aplon selected and kirschner was.

      Jack - 2012-06-03 18:15

Aplon usually plays wing, not fullback. I think Lambie or F. Steyn will play at 15 for the boks. Kirchner is just there in case of injury.

      dellwayne.louw - 2012-06-03 19:29

bkos appels is a streeptry n kirsie is n blou bok

      Deon - 2012-06-04 09:51

      The coach prefers bigger players.

  • Stormkaap - 2012-06-03 18:16

HM is besotted with BIG players..therefore Spears selection, yuet Kolisi manhandled okes bigger than him yesterday, now if that doesnt tell a story!!

      Nick - 2012-06-03 18:33

kolisi's arms are bigger than spiesssss legs maybe hm should ask bar fight what it feels like if he can remember to get smashed and then run over by kolisi the lad should be a sponge next couple weeks and absorb as much as possible will only make him better

      René - 2012-06-03 18:37

@Stormkaap, I think most people are peeved at the fact that Kolisi is not in the 32 man squad - but maybe because he is carrying a bit of an injury could be A reason, who knows??? Marcel Coetzee (Sharks) will cover that spot and Kolisi will get his time in Green & Gold - without a doubt!

  • Saffa - 2012-06-03 18:27

Well, well, well......All the Blue behemoths humble in defeat? Choke on it you miscreants. After the 24/7 arrogance displayed on here last week - you should be running for the hills, not pretending to be 'good' losers, when there is no such thing - you are losers - you lost. Boring, Tik addict, Viskop, geen tande Papsakke - 2. Bloujobbieboks - 0. And that my behemoth barbarians is all that matters. So keep your congrats and your 'good wishes', as the useless, boring papsakke would rather accept good wishes from the ghost of Saddam Hussein than you lot. Had the Bulls won as you ladies predicted (massive scoreline) you would have been on here puffing up like Spies before faking a tackle. Raven, Tokkie, Doc, Rene, Japjapjap and co- you and your bloujob Bok team are our biatches - fact. The only damper on the glorious win, was me finding out I was 100% correct about Heyneke Meyer.........sadly.

      Tokolos - 2012-06-03 18:36

Saffa Cat... You need to wake up you idiot. People like YOU are the reason why I personally don't like some Stormer supporters. Last week when the Sharks beat the Stormers YOU were nowhere to be found. YOU came onto the blogs on Monday puking some stupid comments and made an excuse that you are going to watch Junior Boks. You also insulted Bulls supporters and Pretoria. No comment about your loss or congratulations to the Sharks or anything. You are pathetic. Get a life you moron!!!

      René - 2012-06-03 18:45

@Tokkie, pay IT no attention. Probably escaped from IT's treatment centre! You know the 'Social Anxiety Disorder' written all over it.

      Tokolos - 2012-06-03 18:54

I know Rene.... I think inside she is a very unhappy person. I wonder what she looks like. For someone with her anger issues and spending all day on a treadmill and drinking diet coke she sure has issues. I have a picture in my head and I can assure you it's not pretty. Maybe that is the reason for all the "hate". Maybe she is not liked by people around her or at work or maybe she is called names all the time or something like that. This might be the ONLY place where she is allowed to spew her anger and frustrations with her life or herself. Saffa Cat..... we are here for you ugly fat girl!!!

      Saffa - 2012-06-03 19:06

4 Days before the Sharks game I made my apologies for my absence, which will continue after tonights rant. I will be busy for the next few weeks - but from time to time I will pop in to remind you Blue trolls of the comments you lot make - and then try to excuse with a few 'decent comments'. All you folk do is slam CT, Alistair, the Stormer players and the fans........yet I am now the bad guy? Sorry folk, this is a cowards way of dealing with the fact that we snotted you twice in one year. You should have just kept up with hating us - at keast that was you lot being honest. This 'rational' cr@p coming from you lot is reverse psychology 101 - fortunately most of us in the south get this. Lemme tell you 2 things" Had you won (as you all predicted - your comments would have been very different to this 'friendly - we are all South African" rubbish. Had there been 3 Bulls in the Bok squad - there would not be a clean pair of jean pants in Pta, with all the cr@pping going on. I say again: You are our bi@tches - and I will remind you of this regardless of what happens further in the competition. Tannie Rene - stop pouting and go and support your Boks - they need cheerleaders like you. G'night Behemoths - we OWN you.

      Tokolos - 2012-06-03 19:11

It's ok Saffa Cat.... We are still here for you "ugly fat girl with issues"!!!

      Nick - 2012-06-03 19:12

saffa does have a point the biggest culprit raven nowhere to be found spamming the forums all of last week with insults and massive score predictions anyway g luck to boks whoever ends up playing i will be supporting

      Saffa - 2012-06-03 19:17

Hahahaha @Tokkelos: and I am here for you, for Rene the pouter and you the shouter. Just like the Stormers are there for the Bulls...........Before I run: I suggest you and Rene the wanna be Ranger go and read some of the posts you left here in the last few weeks.......and then take the humble pie that Pierre Tinkerbell Spies is hogging for himself, and eat a few stukkies elk. Cheerio.

      Saffa - 2012-06-03 19:24

I am the YIN from the Stormer south, to your YANG from the Blue north.........

      Melt - 2012-06-03 21:36

Ek weet Tokolos het soveel as 7 Stormer spelers n week of wat terug in sy uitsoek 22 geplaas, so ek neem sy bedoelings as eerlik op. Rene het ook nog altyd geluk en mooi gese waar dit hoort so al het hulle "Pienk Eyes" die dr se dit kan mettertyd genees so gee hulle krediet vir hulle eerlikheid.

      Craven - 2012-06-03 23:19

Aunty Saffa, cool down, why are you using the word behemoth three times in a few passages? Titan would have been a good alternative. Its heartwarming how your personality seems to bubble over into your posts, you are a rare champagne, but I think someone shook you too vigorously tonight. Anyway manic people are fun. All the best Craven.

      Johan - 2012-06-04 01:20

I love it when Rene puts drama queen Saffa in her place. Shame, certainly no IQ giant

      Schalk - 2012-06-04 07:40

true @ Melt for tokolos...maar waar is die res? Rene, Blueraven ens... Tokolos is die enigste true bull (wat ek gesien het - waar hy congrats gese het aan ons 16 yrs cupless C team wat hulle gewen het in hulle eie nessie in PTA)...

  • marko.miladinovic.52 - 2012-06-03 18:43

If you consider the WPRU and Alistair Coetzee's snub of the Springbok coach last year over their defensive coach he has to be happy. After all they brought it on themself.

  • ADDIBERNETTE - 2012-06-03 18:55

these comments are as clueless as the 2 team players selection for the 'bok' team. is this paybacktime for pieter being from cape town? but then, there were not 2 many wp players in last years squad. i cannot fathom the non selection of aploon, brussouw, strauss, siya even tiaan needs a shu-in. but then, i'm a rugby supporter who watches games for the enjoyment, technical ability of the forwards and inventiveness of the back line.hope meyer watched rennie ranger from the blues on sat and the crusaders running angles. agree with alistair - 3 week rest will do our boys world of good. njoy babyworldcup in cape town. watch kitshoff slaughter the opposing prop. go babybokkies.
